About this deal

It's not quite as sleek as the Oral-B iO Series 9, and it's less advanced motor means it's considerably louder, but the Genius X strikes a good balance. The Genius X boasts 3D cleaning action which combines the oscillating power of bristles moving back and forth at a maximum of 10,500 movements per minute with the brush head pulsating at about 48,000 movements per minute. However, the older Genius 9000 tracks this movement by using the front-facing camera on your smartphone.

Oral-B Genius X Electric Toothbrush with Artificial

Its Lithium-Ion battery still needs charging overnight but will last for over an hour of brushing from there on in, which should cover you for a couple of weeks. Offering four modes, including two sensitive modes, you still get a superb clean both on and in-between teeth. While some Oral B Genius X models come with a chargeable travel case with a built-in SmartPhone holder, ours came with a standard travel case.Take care not to miss any areas of your mouth when brushing and it’ll do every bit as good as job as the newer model. The charger is also different; rather than a stylish magnetic puck, it's a standard charger that holds the brush in place using a prong that fits into a recess in the handle. Last but not least, they share the same 360-degree smart ring that illuminates when the toothbrush is powered on and glows red when you apply too much pressure. If you're not sure whether you'll make full use of a 'smart' electric toothbrush but you're interested in the idea, the Oral-B Genius X could be the perfect choice for you.

The Oral-B Genius X doesn't have the advanced frictionless magnetic motor of the iO Series 9, which means it's a little noisier. Below this, lies the silicone cleaning mode button, five backlit icons that light up to show which mode the brush is currently in and towards the base of the brush is the three bar battery indicator. That is to say, it still has multiple brushing modes, gum pressure detection and comes with a travel charging case just like its predecessor.

That is to say, the toothbrush still needs to be paired with your phone each time you want to assess your brushing style. Not only do you need a suction cup holder for your smartphone in your bathroom, you have to stand fairly still whilst brushing also. Like the older model, the Genius X then gives live feedback on your brushing, showing which areas you’re targeting. Sometimes you’ll find iO Series brushes selling for less than older Genius series brushes, or Smart series brushes selling for more than a better Genius series brush.

Oral-B Genius X review: The future of toothbrushing | Expert

It is true that it is a question that is not very relevant, but there is nothing negative in how they are. If you're concerned about waking your family with early morning brushing, it may be worth paying the extra for the higher-end brush. The Oral-B iO Series 10 takes our award for the best electric toothbrush, thanks to its valuable smart tech and real-time feedback that encourages you to improve your brushing technique. The Oral-B Genius X doesn't rely on its app for any of its key features (such as its pressure sensor), so it's entirely up to you whether you use its Bluetooth function or not.The Ordo Sonic+ works on the same principle as Philips Sonicare electric toothbrushes, sending rapid pulses of water between teeth to dislodge sticky plaque, but in our tests we found it delivered a more gentle clean – something helped further by its soft bristles, which help avoid damage to your gums. We’ve tested this toothbrush’s battery life, six different cleaning modes, and its smart, connected functionality, to test whether this toothbrush lives up to the manufacturer's claims. The difference is sometimes small, but the brush heads' design, the motor's power, and the type of movement (oscillating or sonic vibration) can all have an effect. However, here artificial intelligence plays a crucial role, since the higher models, the Oral-B Genius X and 10000, do not need to use the phone to locate themselves, something that is necessary for the 8000 and 9000 series. I’ll come on to how that affects the user experience in more detail below, but aside from this, there is really no discernible difference between the design and features of the two toothbrushes.
