At the time of its discontinuation in 2003, the combined sales of the Game Boy were the best-selling game console of all time. This was the last of the Mega Man handheld games to remix stages and elements from the NES titles, but it's a brilliant end to that series before the following game branched out into something new altogether.

There's not a single fighting game on this list though, Killer Instinct and Samurai Shodown (SNK's game in general) were great, Street Fighter and the Mortal Kombats (except MK2) were awful though.Rival companies got carried away with the technical possibilities and contemporary handheld consoles with far superior specs fell by the wayside as Game Boy marched on. And although Pokémon was a huge phenomenon in the late 90's/early 00's, I think it was mostly kids who played it back then.

Collecting treasure and coins shares the focus with exploration (which causes some fascinating changes). It's a bit different than the usual Gradius games, in the way that it's a bit slower, more "tactical" experience, but it is in my opinion a very good game in its own way. Back of the box has screenshot for both GameBoy and Gamboy Color and text explaining the game is for both.All previous Game Boy games were playable on it and many Game Boy Color games were playable on the original device, but some started being exclusive. Surpassed in sales by the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Switch the trio are now the fourth-best-selling console, the third-best-selling console and the second-best-selling handheld of all time. Although most GameBoy Color games such as Pokémon Gold/Silver could still be played on the original GameBoy, they're still games that were released for the GBC and therefore not eligible according to the rules of this list.

Tetris for the original Game Boy is the best-selling game compatible with Game Boy Color, and Pokémon Gold and Silver are the best-selling games developed primarily for it. Honestly for the GB the land games are better as they're pretty much copies of the country games but reworked for the smaller screen.It is slightly thicker and taller and features a slightly smaller screen than the Game Boy Pocket, its immediate predecessor. Don't forget that now with the release of these games on the 3DS's Virtual Console, it is now possible (and highly recommended) that you play these games on the 3DS (due to backlit screen, wireless communications, and eventually Pokemon Bank support). This list needed a few uncommon gems, even though CaTrap got in there, I could name a bunch of games better than it! Sadly, players are forced to go gung-ho solo, which is disheartening for multiplayer fans and kills some of its longevity, but it’s remarkable just how well the game holds up on the humble Game Boy and fans of the NES games would foolish to pass this up.
