About this deal

That sound is underpinned by all sorts of technological trickery, including no fewer than four Digital-Analogue Converters (DACs), each assigned to its own frequency band, and airtight driver chambers. That's why I also end up giving the ASUS ROG Fusion II 500 a score of 9 out of 10 along with the great product award. Living without its flashing LEDs is a minor imposition, though, given that the ROG Fusion II 500 does the important jobs required of any gaming headset so well. One nice touch that I discovered is that whilst a quick swipe may raise or lower the volume by a couple of increments, for a more significant increase simply swipe and hold to pump the volume way up or quickly drop it back down too.

Even diving into the audio input and output settings yielded nothing – but, on paper, the Strix Wireless supports Mac too.

There’s no doubt it’s a great-looking headset, presenting a nice blend of smooth curves and sharp edges on the ear cups. Having heard the feature at work on the Strix Fusion 300, there’s a clear distinction between gaming with standard stereo and with surround sound enabled. The Asus ROG Fusion II 500 is a great gaming headset that focus on design and sound quality, I can say it’s well balanced and not only good for gaming. At least the Asus ROG Strix Fusion 700 features Bluetooth for connecting to smartphones, tablets and games consoles. It isn’t going to cancel out everything – and when it’s off, the mic does still pick up a fair amount of background noise.

Compared to the two-metre cable that its wired siblings come with, a maximum operational range of 20 metres is unquestionably liberating. The other side graces you with a device selector switch and a dial that allows you to balance game and speech audio, like you can with the Spotify app on Xbox consoles, which is a handy addition. It features some sharp audio courtesy of its 50mm drivers, hi-res audio support and it looks pretty good, too.The Strix Fusion 700 is primarily designed to be wired up to a PC, PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch via USB for immersive gaming. With eight years under his belt covering every smartphone, tablet and wearable worth shouting about, Alex lives and breathes tech.
