The Fettercairn Distillery, established in 1824, has always been dedicated to crafting the purest and finest spirit. The additional cooling from the water increases both condensation and reflux and ensures that only the lightest vapours rise through the neck of the still. To be more precise, the ratings are generally more favourable towards this expression, ranging from a solid 3,5/5 to 4,5/5 on multiple occasions. People who do not think that chill filtering is a bad thing often mention that it allows whisky makers to keep producing an expression which, on the level of flavours and aromas, is more consistent. It rested in a single refill hogshead cask for a decade before it was bottled up at 10 years old for the Clan Denny range, with just 435 bottles released.

However, the Gladstone family were hands-off owners (fun though it is to imagine ‘The People’s William’ getting to grips with distillation). I have noticed that more and more people have started sending me links to newspaper articles stating that "a single malt of brand X, of Y years old, was sold at an auction for ZZZZZZ dollars/euros/pounds sterling". For this particular expression, the spirit has been patiently aged for a full 12 years, allowing it to develop its exceptional character and complexity. It was bottled in 2022 by Hunter Laing for its First Editions range, at cask strength, and with no added colour or chill filtration.As yet, only 12 and 28 year old versions have been unveiled, though it seems likely that further expressions will follow. The texture is of a water-like viscosity, which means this whisky goes down quite well, and it's a bit more difficult to keep it swirling around in your mouth.
