About this deal

I must confess, when I first heard about the Chromaflow colored pencils last year, I assumed they would be a much more affordable products, purely based on the fact that the pencils are not a professional pencil in so much as the lightfast ratings are not up there with the likes of the Derwent Lightfast Pencils.

Derwent Chromaflow Review - Barb Sotiropoulos Derwent Chromaflow Review - Barb Sotiropoulos

The final column is a single heavy and the paper used for this test was the Hahnemühle Agave Watercolor paper, this paper has a nice texture to it, 70% Agave and 30% Cotton. I also completed some artwork using the Derwent Chromaflow, if you would like to know more about the artwork you can check out the speed drawing or still images. Previous attempts by Prismacolor were dropped as unprofitable and the old Derwent Signature departed many years ago as they were too dry and scratchy (the combination of pigment and binder at that time was not at all good). As is the case for artists in the US, Derwent are working hard to make sure that artists in the EU can purchase the extended sets by mid to late April, certain the plan is to make sure they are available before the end of April. Highly pigmented pencils for striking work with a vibrancy that stands out even on dark or mid-tone paper. The thing I noticed about the Chromaflow back then and of course with the new 72 set I was sent was just how light the barrel felt. Derwent pencils are marketed by an English company based in Keswick in the Lake District (The Cumberland Pencil Company) with a great reputation as being the most active in producing new quality art materials. The smooth, creamy laydown of opaque colour is compatible with oil mediums and produces a paint-like effect when dissolved with solvent. I created a chart quite a while ago in my head with regards to rating hard and soft cored colored pencils.

Derwent Chromaflow Pencils 72 Tin

Derwent Chromaflow are 60% lightfast across 72 colours, LF – Lightfastness rating (6 – GOOD, 7 – VERY GOOD, 8 – EXCELLENT) Is Chromaflow oil or wax-based?The Derwent Chromaflow are one such pencil that are aimed toward those of use who just love drawing, adult colouring book artists, crafters, people like myself who love to use colored pencils and then slip the work into a wallet never to see the light of day again. Yes, you will lose some pale colours, but nothing that you can’t deal with using a layer of white or a bit of judicious blending. For the mean time however if artists in the US would like to try these wonderfully soft pencils out you can expect to pay the following. Most colours match across the two lines, the only difference being that ARTIST is sold in 120 colours, round barrelled with a 4mm core, and STUDIO is sold in 72 colours, Hexagonal barrel, and 3. I would definitely like to try this product on a slightly toothier paper, but it performed well on this ultra-smooth surface without coming off too light or grainy.
