About this deal

There is a transforming moment when Benjamin turns away from anger and embraces positivity in response to race hate, but this comes in a heavily message-bound ending. Much colder and less colourful than Trinidad and getting around London was very different to getting around Trinidad. If you will arrive in England after 4am, Friday 18 March, you do not need to take any COVID-19 tests or fill in a UK passenger locator form.

The list runs from early September to late August the following year, to coincide with the start of autumn and the end of summer, when we see the likelihood of low-pressure systems and the potential for named storms increase. Trends in windstorm numbers are difficult to detect, due to how these naturally vary year-to-year and decade-to-decade. I've realised children's minds get affected at a very young age with happy things, sad things, traumatic and joyful things. From 24 February, there is no legal requirement to self-isolate if you get a positive day 2 test result. To ensure we are in line with the US National Hurricane Centre naming conventions, we are not going to include names which begin with the letters Q, U, X, Y and Z.We wanted a very specific look for the book, something that is really warm and engaging and captured my story exactly right. I love the illustrator’s vibrant colours in the book when Floella’s talking about Trinidad and the way the colours change in England. Do you know how many days it took in 1960 to travel to grey, dark England from vibrant, warm Trinidad? Floella took every opportunity, tried her best, worked hard and, as she became a politician in the House of Lords, she met the Queen! The drama lacks emotional depth and texture as a whole; Benjamin is told to go back home and often sees signs in windows stating: “No dogs, no Irish, no coloureds” but none of these moments are developed or feel specific enough, though they will doubtless educate a younger audience.

People might think it's easy writing a picture book, but it's not, especially when you've got quite a complicated real life story such as Coming to England. Floella worked with an illustrator, Diane Ewen, to tell the astonishing story of Floella’s life, travelling from Trinidad to arriving in England. Amy Sedghi, Evening Standard Coming to England leaps off the page full of hope and personality, much like Benjamin herself. It is very visually engaging and I learnt about Colonialism and Windrush as well as Trinidadian life. Wednesday's case figure was, however, down significantly from a week ago, when 44,104 cases were reported. Today she works as a politician at the House of Lords, trying to influence all our lives for the better. This framing promises that the dots will be joined, but the story does not take in the full arc of Benjamin’s journey. Adapted by David Wood and directed by Omar F Okai, the play circles around the early years but we never learn how Benjamin rose, so singularly, to become the face of children’s TV in an era of open racial hostility and little diversity on screen.

She moves from colourful Trinidad to a dull England to join her Marmie and Dardie who went to London for work. The naming of storms using a single authoritative system provides a consistent message and aids the communication of approaching severe weather through media partners and other government agencies. When you tell children certain words it stays with them forever, so I don't want to damage children's minds - that will have a psychological effect. This musical weaves misty-eyed flashbacks to that series – iconic lines, collective singing and clap-alongs – with a story of Britain’s Windrush-era racism from a child’s perspective.
