About this deal

On both cameras there’s an ISO button between the mode dial and control wheel (a button Nikon refuses to include on rival D5x00-series cameras), but the 750D flanks it with a button for turning the LCD display on and off, as well as an autofocus point selection button. Further round the mode dial are four separate modes for use when shooting Sports, Close-up, Landscape and Portrait images. We've provided some Canon RAW (CR2) samples for you to download (thumbnail images shown below are not 100% representative). Moiré remains a problem in videos, with multi-coloured swirls of interference over dense, repeating patterns.

Unlike the Rebel T6s / 760D, the EOS Rebel T6i / EOS 750D doesn't have a Servo autofocus option in Live View mode so there isn't an option for focus to adjust continuously while the shutter release is held down and subject distance changes. The camera is fast and accurate to focus, but you’ll occasionally find it necessary to manually select your desired focal point. These days, NFC has on the whole disappeared, while always-on low-power Bluetooth connectivity is very popular. The newer Canon EOS 800D features Dual Pixel AF technology to make shooting via the screen quicker – but it’s also fair to say that most DSLR users stick with the viewfinder for the majority of shots anyway. Choosing between the 750D and 760D entirely depends on how much you value the latter’s secondary LCD display and rear control wheel. So, whether you want to create massive canvas prints for your wall or just crop into smaller details in post production, you can do so without worrying about image quality.

Of course if you want maximum low light image quality, a long exposure from a tripod is the only way to go. However, the 750D’s sensitivity scale only changes in 1EV steps and there’s no option to add 1/3EV increments. That may still seem rather stingy compared to the 39-point AF system in the Nikon D5500, but where this only features nine of the more sensitive cross-type focus points, all nineteen of the 750D’s AF points are cross-type. Differences between the EOS 750D and 760D are subtle, but one of the most noticeable is the 750D’s lack of a secondary top-panel settings display. The new metering and autofocus systems conspire to deliver subject tracking autofocus – something the 700D offered in live view mode but not when using the viewfinder.

It has a 19-point on-sensor, with all-cross-type points, as well as the on-sensor phase detection pixels that are used when you’re in Live View mode. Pushing beyond ISO 3200 sees an increasing level of noise introduced into JPEG and Raw files, however acceptable results can be achieved at ISO 6400 by shooting in Raw and carefully applying manual noise reduction in post. It gives the 750D the ability to generate incredibly clean images with low enough noise levels to make even ISO 12800 shots stand up to close scrutiny. Original review continues: Some cameras are packed with attention-grabbing features, but I think the average SLR owner would prefer to be dazzled by the quality of their photos than by the camera itself. It’s a similar story at ISO 6400 and ISO 12800, as each setting introduces only marginally more noise, plus a slight increase in detail smoothing and colour boundary smearing. You could achieve the same result by switching to Program Auto mode, but then you’d also have to ensure things like white balance and ISO sensitivity are set correctly.
