About this deal

For a vanilla-brandy flavor, add 1 split and scraped vanilla bean to the sauce along with the sugar. It is a good, basic, sweet, white sauce and it works well with many flavorings, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic.

Heat on full power for the time specified (750w - 2 mins, stir and re-cover, 1 mins 45 sec, 850w - 2 mins, stir and re-cover, 1 mins 35 sec, 1000w - 2 mins, stir and re-cover, 1 min 20 sec). This might include changes to allergy advice, ingredient lists, nutritional guides or dietary advice.

Pour into a serving jug to pour over the Christmas pudding before it's cut into pieces, which makes for a beautiful presentation. No British Christmas would be the same without the traditional and favorite Christmas pudding and a delicious sauce to drizzle on top. A Scottish Italian cook living in Los Angeles, Christina is usually cooking, baking or (cr)eating something scrumptious. When ready to serve, simply reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave, taking care not to let it burn. Add the brandy to your liking, from two teaspoonfuls to two tablespoonfuls (or more), but be careful not to add too much brandy or the sauce will become too runny.

The brandy goes in at the end, so you can always pour some out and then add more brandy for those who like it a bit more boozy! You can also use this sauce for other desserts, such as bread and butter pudding, topping ice cream, cakes or even pies. TheChristmas pudding pairs perfectly with this boozy, rich sauce, which balances out the sweet and fruity dessert.

Pour the brandy sauce into a serving jug to pour over the Christmas pudding before it’s cut into pieces, which makes for a beautiful presentation. If you did happen to get any lumps or curdled sauce, simply us an immersion blender, or small blender to make the sauce smooth (I won't tell)! Just be sure to stir it up well when you reheat it as the brandy will fall to the bottom of the jug when it’s refrigerated. However, it may be more practical to cut slices and place in bowls, then pour the sauce over the top.

Four years ago, I shared a traditional British Christmas pudding recipe, also known as plum pudding (and even figgy pudding) and promised I’d be posting a recipe for brandy sauce. The sauce is delicious served hot or cold, so don't worry if you don't have time to reheat it before drizzling over the pudding. This brandy sauce recipe is so easy to make; it can also be made a day or two in advance, refrigerated, and then simply reheated when the pudding is ready.
