About this deal

In a well-lit room, HDR content once again looks accurate with stunning colours and nice dynamic range on offer. We have plenty of options when it comes to calibrating the Hisense with comprehensive-looking menus and controls. Ultra-precise variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low latency mode (ALLM) come together at an astounding 144Hz for a smooth gaming experience that’ll remain competitive for years. Controlling these 72 zones is a local dimming algorithm designed to maximise contrast performance and reduce instances of blooming around bright objects.

The depth and solidity to the image is enhanced by the Dolby Vision Dark picture mode, which gives added subtlety to Dolby Vision content.

That’s a lot of screen real estate for affordable pricing, so the performance needs to live up to the promise, a promise last year’s UK units disingenuously squandered by carrying the same SKU numbers as more impressive global models from the company before revealing themselves as under-specced.

SDR HD colour gamut is also decent with some accuracy to the standard and saturation points tracking close to where they should be in the majority of cases. It is not just the build quality that impresses as the U7K also supports all the current HDR flavours, with HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+ Adaptive, HLG ( Hybrid Log-Gamma), IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision IQ compatibility. This is good for such a TV at this level of the market, but the dynamic range is not huge and the tone mapping employed does clip detail in the brightest reaches of the image. Watching in normal living room lighting and we simply couldn’t fault the Hisense when handling the heavy lifting of Homes Under the Hammer and other daytime fodder. Slight movements of a head, the type of which are frequent in any film or TV show, cause this TV issues.

Picture quality tests include broadcast 1080i high-definition TV, Freeview, Freeview HD, viewing angle and the stability of motion in fast action scenes. When switching to low light conditions you do start to notice some of the limitations of LCD technology, especially if moving off-axis, but with SDR content we again found the U7QF to be a strong contender with TV and film content. for the 65-inch version we tested), as its name implies, sits between those two Editors’ Choice award winners. See every moment from any angle without the brightness of the sun or the lights in your room getting in the way.
