About this deal

While always maintaining its class-leading quality, the sound can be subtlety tuned via the two-way ear tips. With two fitting positions, these give the option for a slight boost in bass or a more analytical sound. Taking just a few seconds to reverse, you can even change the positions depending on the music genre. Sources: E1DA SG3, Shanling UP5, Geshelli JNOG J2 with AKM4493 chip. The Sennheiser IE 200 has a simple but lovely design, and it shares its form factor with its higher end siblings. This time round Sennheiser chose a more minimalist build, probably also to keep the selling price as low as possible. Like the IE 300, the IE 200 comes in a type of plastic and not aluminium.I have been a Sennheiser fan since I was a kid. I still remember jamming out to Collective Soul (on MiniDisk!) with my HD555. Finally, I will only evaluate the IE200 based on their performance, even though I will explain how it feels and seems physically and aesthetically. Sennheiser states that “the IE 200 can appeal to a variety of listening preferences thanks to its unique dual-tuning feature – from deep and emotional bass response to texture-rich treble presence” . Depending on tip position, the IE 200 sound can be characterized as either “bass-boosted neutral” or “bright-neutral.”

As we noted before, you can get a subtle bass boost by using the foam tips, but these earphones won't ever come close to the bass-forward signature of most mainstream models. If that's what you're after, look elsewhere. Sennheiser uses recessed mmcx ports that are not compatible with many third-party cables. The IEMs rotate freely along the cable joint, but this should not raise any concerns about durability. The mmcx port is recessed into the chassis. Both tip positions are useful for different purposes. The bright-neutral tuning helps in live feed monitoring, while the bass-boosted one is more general-purpose and better for listening to music and watching movies. Sennheiser IE 200 frequency response with eartips mounted at different positions. Measurements conducted on an IEC-711 compliant coupler. Bass Sennheiser IE200 works fine off a smartphone, although it find it to sound better with dedicated DAC/AMP and Audio players. I tried the IE200 with my colleague's M31S and it was sounding pretty decent off it as well. But once I plugged it into my sources such as the Hidizs XO, the Astell&Kern SE200, and the Sony ZX707, the result was even better. It synergizes well with my Sony and delivers a rich, smooth sound that I personally prefer. The product is returned in original condition (with brand’s/manufacturer's box, MRP tag intact, user

Tech Highlights

We have reviewed the IE 600 previously though it is a big step in performance and price. The closer sibling is the IE 300 though sadly we have yet to review that one.

The highs are not tuned to bombard you with details and upper-harmonics, so if those are the priority – the IE 200 will disappoint. If you appreciate natural-sounding highs, these will align with expectations. Soundstage and imaging Sennheiser – based on 15 years of TrueResponse Transducer technology – chose to use their single 7mm driver, which we have seen before. This 7mm XWB (extra wide band) driver is responsible for the extra-wide frequency range and ultra-low harmonic distortion of these earphones. The diffuse-field equalization delivers an amazingly balanced sound. The IE 200 was designed in Germany, but it’s being built in China.

The Stage is the real most notable thing I liked on the IE200. Great width and fantastic depth and height. For me with these tips I really liked the way the Senny presented the stage in a really smooth way. There was once a time when in-ear headphones like the Sennheiser IE 200 were the most convenient way to listen to music on the go. That all changed with the arrival of Bluetooth options, specifically true wireless earbuds, but wired headphones aren’t dead just yet.
