About this deal

Being able to save space and money is of high-priority for many home gym owners. Enter MonkeyFeet. MonkeyFeet, developed by Animalhouse Fitness, is a patented, ratchet-based shoe attachment designed to securely hold a standard dumbbell weighing up to 160 pounds. This unique design is the only method to-date that allows athletes to lift dumbbells with their feet just as they would with their hands. In doing so, it opens the door to dozens of leg and core training movements usually reserved for machines. The convenience of MonkeyFeet is great. They’re small and lightweight but provide access to a plethora of exercises. Leg extensions, high knees, hip flexor raises, hamstring curls, hanging leg lifts, windshield wipers, hollow body holds, and dead bugs are just a few of the movements athletes can do with MonkeyFeet. While these do not feel as smooth and ergonomic as machines (think leg extension machine, leg curl machine, etc.), they do save an astounding amount of space (and money) and still allow you to work the same muscles. While it is possible to do tibialis raises with MonkeyFeet, it really isn’t a very good way to do this exercise – the product simply wasn’t designed for this use. As you can see, the weight is situated too closely to the heel and needs to be further towards the toes for this to be an effective way to do tib raises.

One-Size Fits Most. The Monkey Feet are easy to adjust and should fit over your shoes without too much trouble. The clip for dumbbells also shouldn’t cause any trouble, since it fits most handles. I have Size 13 (US) Shoes, I used 18” Long Soft Loop Tiedown Straps, and used a 3.25” Carabiner. Now if you have a different size shoe, use different Straps, and/or use a different size Carabiner - I CANNOT GUARANTEE this option will be right for you. Instead, you may need to look at Option 2 & 3 - which are adjustable. Great for calisthenics. Doing lower body workouts with just your bodyweight will eventually leave you behind in terms of strength, muscle definition, and hypertrophy. But with the Monkey Feet, you can consistently improve your leg strength with calisthenics without feeling like you have to play catch-up. Certain calisthenic skill progressions, like the L-Sit and V-Sit, can also be improved with Monkey Feet. Plastic straps. Like a ski or snowboard shoe, the Monkey Feet has ridged plastic straps to tighten against your foot. However, the fact that this is intended to hold heavy weights and be lifted and lowered repeatedly may cause wear and tear on the cheap plastic straps in time.

MonkeyFeet

Most fixed or adjustable dumbbells will work with AnimalHouse MonkeyFeet. The handle must be at least five inches long and smaller than 1.45 inches in diameter. However, if you use heavy dumbbells with large rubber heads, the AnimalHouse MonkeyFeet may leave scuff marks on the heads. How much weight should I use with AnimalHouse MonkeyFeet? If you work out in a home gym and are bored with doing the same lower body exercises over and over, an AnimalHouse MonkeyFeet attachment can help you add more variety to your leg days. This innovative tool can hold up to a 160-pound dumbbell and allows you to do isolation movements you would otherwise need, say, a leg extension machineto do. Better than ankle weights. Since you can clip on a dumbbell of any weight, the pre-weighed ankle weights you may have lying around your home gym are most likely obsolete now. While it hasn’t affected the functionality of either the AnimalHouse MonkeyFeet or our dumbbells, this is something to keep in mind if you’re concerned about your equipment’s aesthetics. Portability

We also love that it’s easy to carry around for times when you may want to bring it to a commercial gym. Fit You only need one. Obviously, two would be ideal for a few of the exercises I’ve mentioned (and maybe some I haven’t). But really, you just need one Monkey Foot to get by for the most part. Just switch shoes between sides. If you find the AnimalHouse MonkeyFeet don’t fit well when you first get them, you can remove the straps with a wrench and change which hole gets mounted to the device to shorten or lengthen them. Maximum Foot Size and Shoe Compatibility One AnimalHouse MonkeyFeet attachment weighs a mere 1.2 pounds. While we don’t know its exact dimensions, you can rest assured that it’s pretty compact when not loaded with a dumbbell. For reference, we’d say it’s about the same size as a woman’s ankle boot. Materials Goes beyond leg workouts. Like I mention above, the Monkey Feet are great for abdominal work, too. It doesn’t take too much thinking to figure out all the ways to take advantage of this funky little product.

Lashing Straps come in different lengths - all of which will be far too long for this application. You will have to trim them. You want them at least to be long enough to fit OVER the ends of your dumbbells. If you have Pro Style Dumbbells (with 10 LBS Plates on the ends) - you will obviously need them to be longer than if you have more compact dumbbells (e.g., Hex dumbbells). In the video - I use straps that were probably a little too long. I could have cut off more. Just use your best judgment. When cutting, use a sharp pair of scissors, and then take a lighter and lightly singe the the end where you cut. This will prevent the strap from fraying. Did Animal House Fitness intend for their Monkey Feet to go so far beyond leg workouts? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, this is an innovative and exciting new product that I definitely recommend to my fellow bodyweight enthusiasts! Finally, some variety to our leg workouts! And as always, remember to stretch!

But it is really nice knowing you can go super heavy on leg extensions, weighted chin ups, or hanging leg raises with these. What Dumbbells Work With MonkeyFeet? Again, although MonkeyFeet work okay, the current market seems to have passed them by, as there’s now other products that do a superior job. Can You Do Tib Raises With MonkeyFeet? For almost every exercise you perform with the MonkeyFeet, you should look to control the weight with nice, slow movements. The sensation of having an external load on your foot is very peculiar and awkward to begin with. It definitely takes some getting used to.
