Donald Richie. A Tractate on Japanese Aesthetics. Berkeley: Stone Bridge Press 2007. ISBN 978-1-933330-23-5 Two years ago, I've read the Holy Bible from cover to cover. However, it is only now, thanks to this book, that I got a good understanding of what happened after Jesus died particularly the story of the apostles and how they spread Christianity in that part of the world.

McCloud, Scott. Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art. New York: Kitchen Sink Press 1993. ISBN 0-06-097625-X If you're looking for an alternative way into the Bible, there's no shortage of versions to choose from. Here are some of the more unusual: I saw this at the library and decided to give it a try. There were all the stories from the bible I remember being told to me by my mom. This manga described things in pretty good detail and there was lots of text, which is different from other manga. First I'd like to state this review does not hold any religious bias, and is judged only on the art and deliverance of the story. This one got the seal of approval of Rowan Williams's predecessor George Carey, who grew up in London's East End, so must have known what he was rabbit and porking about.

Doing bible study like Jazz and Jeet Kune Do with a dash of manga!

Aronson, Michael (2007-09-01). "PR: Manga Messiah and Bible". Manga Life. Silver Bullet Comics. Archived from the original on 2008-09-25 . Retrieved 2008-09-08. Each book in the series is initially written in Japanese by Christian Japanese artists, then translated to additional languages and published by regional religious publishers. [4] Each language edition is reviewed by members of regional bible societies before publication, to ensure accurate translation. [4] Media [ edit ] But how successful these versions are at doing that is another question. The makers of the Bible Illuminated claim it has increased sales of Bibles by 50% in Sweden - though we are not told over what timescale. A version that could achieve such figures in the UK would be one of the most surprising Bibles yet.

He, however, welcomes it with open arms. "You have to understand that what we think of as the traditional serious-looking leather-bound Bible is actually a relatively new format. In the Middle Ages, picture books - with people in contemporary dress - were the way most people read the Bible. The Manga Bible is a summary of the Bible, which implies that many parts are left out, altered a bit, or only partially used. The text and the drawings are based on the original scripture, but they also use free interpretation. [13] Even though many of the important stories from the Bible are included, there are also some that would be expected, but are left out. For example, the building of the Tower of Babel and the whole Book of Esther are missing, In the Old and the New Testament only about half of the books are used as a source for The Manga Bible. Many of the books that are left out would give only little to the development of the narrative, such as the Leviticus or books from the second part of the Old Testament, such as Micah or Habakkuk. This is mostly due to the style of manga, where the use of epic stories and action play an important role. [11] Thus, The Manga Bible focuses on books that provide action and it also shows the violence and sexuality that is portrayed in the Bible. In the Book of Joshua the bloody fall of the Israelites’ enemies is shown. The weakness of different characters is illustrated with the examples of the moral downfall of David with Bathshebe or when Samson is deceived to give away the secret of his power. At this time I was Elixir Studio's Visuals Director, so I came on board developing a total art style with lead artist Brian Gilles.. This was what we came up with; a retro look from the 60s.Manga Mutiny begins with Satan’s Rebellion in the heavens and the Creation of the world. It continues with the Fall of Man, the Flood, and the dispersing of man at Babel. The story then follows the lives of the Patriarchs, thus ending with the life of Moses and Israel’s Exodus from Egypt to the Red Sea. Manga Metamorphosis begins with Yeshua’s Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It then follows the acts of the apostles that led to the growth of the early Church. It ends with Saul’s persecution of the Church, his dramatic conversion, and his resulting journeys that led him to Rome. The Manga Bible: From Genesis to Revelation is The Holy Bible compiled and told in a graphic novel form – specifically the East Asian art style of manga.
