About this deal

I have made a few recipes with millets such as Pongal, Bisibelebath, Little millet lemon rice, Bajra(Pearl Millet) Khichdi, Kodo Millet Pulao, Dosa. But there are a lot of recipes to make with these wonder grains.

Millets have additional benefits as subsistence crops due to their unique ability to grow under harsh environmental conditions where other crops yield poorly. They are more feasible at adapting to erratic climate change, inadequate moisture, marginal to poor soils and less prone to major pests and diseases.

What is Little Millet?

For thousands of years, millets has been growing such as Pearl millet, Barnyard millet, Sorghum, Foxtail millet, Little millet, Kodo millet, Proso millet and now ANI (Millet Network of India) promotes milets as Nutri-cereals instead of Coarse Cereals. Here some interesting facts about millets other than that they are gluten-free, highly nutritious, millets need very little water for their production, short growing period under dry, high temperature conditions and that's why in India, Africa, Asia millets are more popular. Millets also required rich soils for growth, no millet attracts any pest hence they have no or low fertilizer usage and pest-free. I did lot of research to write more about these millets, main sources are from google, wiki, whfoods. When shopping for millets, you should still look for a label that certifies it gluten-free to ensure it hasn’t been contaminated with any gluten-containing ingredients. In western India, sorghum (called jowar, jola, jonnalu, jwaarie, or jondhahlaa in Gujarati, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi and Marathi languages, respectively; mutthaari, kora, or panjappullu in Malayalam; or cholam in Tamil) has been commonly used with millet flour (called jowari in western India) for hundreds of years to make the local staple, hand-rolled (that is, made without a rolling pin) flat bread ( rotla in Gujarati, bhakri in Marathi, or roti in other languages). Another cereal grain popularly used in rural areas and by poor people to consume as a staple in the form of roti.
