About this deal

Two teams of two contestants competed in a game of guessing five-letter words and making bingo or in this case, "lingo."

In 2011, GSN announced the show would restart production after a nearly four-year hiatus, with Bill Engvall as the new host. [7] One season of forty episodes premiered on June 6, 2011. [1] The last first-run show aired on August 1, 2011. This was RuPaul's second game or reality competition series where he doesn't appear in drag, the first was RuPaul's Drag U in 2010 until 2012. Lingo has kept TV fans from around the world entertained for over 30 years, and now it’s your turn to add your name to the list of Lingo winners! Tournaments and special episodes [ edit ]In the second round, the point values were doubled and three balls with question marks on them were placed in the hoppers, which could be used to cover any number on a team's card when drawn. The team leading at the end of this round won the game and advanced to play Bonus Lingo. a b Schwartz, Ryan (November 14, 2022). As a replacement in Tenable's slot this was alright, if a bit monotonous, being word puzzle after word puzzle. Compare with Channel 4's Countdown, which has numbers games and entertaining anecdotes to add some variety. Lingo came a few weeks after the first series of Winning Combination, a much faster game in comparison. In Round 2, points were doubled. This meant that correct words were now worth 50 points, and lingos were worth 100 points. Plus to help the teams in making lingo, three question mark balls were added to both teams' hoppers, they acted as wild cards, for whenever a question mark ball was pulled, the team could select any number to cover up, even the ones that caused a lingo (which happened occasionally). When this occurred, the wild-card-replaced number was not removed from the hopper, if it happened to be drawn later, the draw was ignored (for the purpose of game play) and had to be edited out of the show before it was aired.

Addictive, simple to play family word game. LINGO and Puzzleword boards, letter panels, score pad, timer, dry-wipe pen. Do you know your LINGO? The team lost control if they didn't guess the word in five turns, guessed a word that doesn't fit (shorter or longer than five letters), is not a real word, misspell a word, guessed a word that can only be a proper noun, or just plain ran out of time. If any one of those things happened, the opposing team got a shot at the word. When stealing, a free letter was given (in this version it was referred to as a "clue letter"), but if there was only one blank space left, no free letter was given, but the team did get a five second conference (conferring was generally not allowed except in this situation). Coinciding with the change in scoring in the front game, the bonus round rules were adjusted. The cash prize awarded in the front game became the starting stake for the No Lingo round, and champions were allowed to stay on for a maximum of four matches or until they lost the bonus round twice.Diario ABC, ed. (26 June 1993). "Concursos y humor, bazas de las cadenas de TV en la batalla de la audiencia veraniega". Based on the popular TV quiz show, LINGO is the addictive, simple to play word game for the whole family. The episode due to be broadcast on 20 January 2021 was delayed to 11 February 2021 so ITV could show extended coverage of the US presidential inauguration (in particular, so they could get on air at 3.30, the same time as the BBC). After each successful round, the winning team could choose to either take the money and quit or continue playing knowing that if at any time a lingo was formed, they lost the money (the winning team even got that option at the start of the No Lingo round, and no team refused to take the challenge). Five words were played in this round, so if the winning team guessed and/or got passed all five words and avoided lingo, they won the maximum grand cash prize.

Lingo occasionally featured theme weeks where the set was decorated, the host, hostess, and contestants wore costumes, and the theme music and logo redone in the theme's style. Themes included Sc-Fi, Fiesta Week and Hawaiian week. In the event of a tie, a seven-letter word would be displayed and the letters filled in one at a time, with all four contestants able to buzz-in. The first one to guess the word won the game for his/her team. Kenny Hotz and Spencer Rice (of Kenny vs. Spenny) each team with a contestant playing against each other. Thames in association with Ralph Andrews Presentations and Action Time for ITV, 12 May to 14 July 1988 (10 episodes in 1 series)

Feedback

The 2023 revival does not use any bingo mechanics and consists only of word guessing. Each episode features two semi-final matches between two teams each, consisting of the following rounds: This time the hopper contained balls with every even numbered Lingo space on them, regardless of whether they appeared on the board or not, and one gold ball. For each draw, the host would call out the letter and number on the ball, and as long as the ball did not have a number on it that would complete a Lingo, play continued. If none of the drawn balls completed a Lingo, or if they drew the gold ball from the hopper at any time, their winnings doubled. Try your hand at guessing our Daily Word. In late 2021, Two Way Media launched a mobile version of Lingo available for iOS and Android users. The game follows a similar format to the 2002–2007 format of Lingo. However, there are some slight differences. Players have a choice of playing either a four letter, five letter, or six letter round. If the player correctly guesses a word, they win coins and have the option to play bingo. This version of Lingo does not feature a bonus round. [23] [24] See also [ edit ]
