About this deal

For me however, I love the mild smoke and peat flavours of the Green Label. Considering the price, I think this is a great value bottle which is practically an ‘unofficial single malt’. Comparing it to the CRXV, it’s a tough decision between the two. Dive deep into the rich tapestry of Johnnie Walker, the world-renowned whisky brand. In this first instalment of our three-part series, we journey through the origins of Johnnie Walker, tracing its roots from a small farm in Scotland to its meteoric rise as a global whisky powerhouse. Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years is an indulgent blend of up to 18 different whiskies each chosen for their remarkable depth of flavour and character and was previously known as Johnnie Walker Platinum Label. Both these brands are top players in the blended Scotch category. Whilst Chivas aren’t quite as mainstream, their Speyside orientated blends were a delight to sample. After being axed from the core range in 2012 just 6 years after its initial release, the Green Label was relaunched in 2016. The popularity of the Green Label was made apparent after a limited run of bottles were made available for its 10th anniversary and the positive response prompted its return to the core range. The Green Label is one of the three Johnnie Walkers to carry an age statement and for this bottling its 15 years.

Pouring a glass, I’m immediately hit with an earthy, herbal aroma that sort of reminds me of a florists. Trust me though, it’s actually attractively floral and slightly fruity towards the end each of each sniff. It’s inviting and pleasant. I have chosen up to 18 different whiskies with remarkable flavours and character, including classic Speyside malts, such as Cardhu, Glen Elgin and Auchroisk for their sweetness and elegance; fruity and complex Highland malts including Blair Athol and beautifully aged island malts that enable me to introduce such a subtle smokiness.” Beveridge added: “I find older whiskies fascinating to work with. The great whiskies I’ve selected for this blend have undergone a slow, easy maturation through at least 18 cold winters and warm summers. It’s a long time to wait but these whiskies have a wonderful balance. The Palate is quite Clean without any off-notes. The Grain Alcohol is more noticeable here than on the Nose. The Palate is Sweet with a very light Bitter touch for balance. Soft Spices enter as well. The Service has been prepared by us solely for information purposes to Members and the Service is based on information we consider reliable and we obtain the contents of the Service from a number of different third party sources (including Contributions), but we do not endorse, support, represent, warrant or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of the Services and any information therein. On the palate however, I taste hints of crisp refreshing apples, with sweet pear and vanilla. There’s also a toffee like sweetness that comes through with a tang that reminds me of aniseed. I’m usually not much of a fan of this sort of flavour, but it brings an aromatic element to this dram which works nicely with the sweet fruitiness. Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years is presented in a newly-designed, “sophisticated” bottle with gold detailing.Uniquely, the Green Label by Johnnie Walker is a bit of anomaly within their range. Unlike the rest of their bottles, this edition is the only one to exclude grain whiskies using only single malts in it’s 15 year old blend.
