About this deal

HyperX chose to stay faithful to its signature colors and added its logo on each earbud. This makes them stand out quite a bit. Any pro gamer can take one look at these IEMs and will know intuitively that they’re meant for gaming. Despite that, I didn’t observe any instances of my voice cutting off. There’s a slight reverb to it though. First off, the pouch is simple, yet looks quite elegant if you ask me. The HyperX logo on top is a nice touch. I like that they didn’t choose to be flashy with their name on it, and decided to go with an embossed design. HyperX is a brand known for its high-quality gaming peripherals. They have released headphones, keyboards, and mice catered towards casual players and professionals. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that the company is having a go at the expanding gaming earbud market. Traditionally, we have all been led to believe that headphones reign supreme in terms of audio quality. In most cases, this is the truth, but with the increase in mobile and console gaming, the HyperX Cloud Earbuds aim to close the gap between performance and comfortability. Design

According to the NPD Group, HyperX was the Number 1 PC gaming headset brand in retail for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017. And that wasn’t the only milestone it hit in 2016, when it surpassed its 1 million sales mark. In an effort to achieve total sound isolation, I turned the volume up to the maximum level, but this resulted in major sound leakage. Anyone around you is sure to hear whatever game you’re playing. Before I get into audio quality, let me mention what a difficult process it was to even get to a point where I was able to assess audio quality. However, I managed to hear every subtle detail, such as the wind direction or the ocean waves. For a pair without an active Surround Sound feature, this was pretty impressive. The 47-inch cable has been rubberized to prevent tangles. This is a nice feature we have seen on most in-ear gaming earbuds these days. If you’re commuting early in the morning, the last thing that anyone wants to do is fiddle with cables. It should be noted here that the cable is not interchangeable or replaceable. The cables form part of the earbud casing and cannot be removed. These are in-ear earbuds with silicone tips. My ears aren’t particularly small — they’re solidly medium-sized — and these earbuds were just a little too large to feel comfortable right away. They didn’t hurt, and they weren’t falling out, but they felt overwhelming in my ears. I grew more accustomed to them after a couple of days, but even now they’re still slightly-too-big-to-be-comfortable. Largeness aside, the earbuds fit my ears pretty well, creating a decent seal that offered good passive noise cancellation. Audio and Mic Quality on the HyperX Cloud MIX Buds I pulled the zipper of the pouch and was greeted with a lovely sight of the IEMs very neatly contained inside. Upon closer look, it turns out to be fastened together with a cable tie. I like this a lot, as it prevents tangling and keeps it from spilling out once you’ve opened the very compact case. In terms of comfort, the Cloud Earbuds definitely win. Both pairs make use of unique ear tip shapes. But with the Battle Buds, they brought discomfort, while for the Cloud Earbuds, they made them extremely comfortable on the ears. The patented silicone ear tips are very comfortable to wear. They feel a bit loose, but not too much like they’re going to fall out. Their unique shapes make them smooth and easy to remove. Sound Quality One major difference between the Cloud Earbuds and the Turtle Beach Battle Buds is the removable boom mic. This is a unique design feature that really makes the Battle Buds stand out in the competition. But the boom mic advantage seems to end at the design. Compared to the HyperX Cloud Earbuds, the Battle Buds’ boom mic actually falls short in quality because of the echo and high sensitivity. A little more versatility with an included Y-cable would have been preferable, but for handheld gaming consoles, they work just fine. Build Quality

Since then, HyperX has been providing a variety of PC, console, and wireless headsets that meet the rigorous demands of gamers, which give them the winning edge and help them stay on top of their game. I started with the 2.4-GHz wireless dongle, which I plugged into my PC using the adapter (the dongle plugs into the adapter, and the USB-C to USB-A charging cable plugs into a USB port on your PC). I opened the Cloud MIX Buds, and they successfully paired to the dongle — or so I thought. I then had an online meeting to attend, and it was at that point I discovered that the microphone wasn’t working. Next are the earbud casings themselves. Inside, you’ll find 14 mm dynamic drivers, but more on sound later. HyperX has included 3 different sized silicone patented ear tips. They’ve been made in an almost ‘wedge-shape style’ so removal from the ear canal is made easier. It’s a pity that HyperX has not included any foam ear tips, but the included tips still provide a comfortable experience. One of the biggest reasons for using gaming earbuds over gaming headphones is their lightweight structure. Headphones can be cumbersome and, after a few hours of gaming, they can put a strain on your ears. The HyperX Cloud Earbuds weigh just 0.67 ounces and are a perfect option for those looking for mobility and long-term comfort. There are no buttons on the inline controls for volume or muting. You’d have to do it manually on whichever device you’re using, which is quite a drag, especially during intense gameplay.

Moreover, the Battle Buds come with a soft carry pouch that you tie together, whereas the Cloud Earbuds use a hard, rubber zip-up case. This adds a winning point for the Cloud Earbuds. I found the cable to be quite unique. It’s flat and sports a bright red color. It definitely stands out and helps give that gamer edge to the overall design. The Cloud Earbuds are supposed to feature an in-ear design, however, I can’t say that this is actually the case. They don’t actually go inside the ear, but rather they sit just over the ear cavity. My ears weren’t sealed and there’s no vacuum inside, but this doesn’t pose much of a problem. They have quite a peculiar design. The silicone ear tips double as stabilizer wings, with small slits that serve as a grip on your ears to keep the IEMs from falling off. Next, we went with a classic, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which would be slower-paced and more immersive. Upon entering a nearby tavern, the music sung by a bard was clear and the instruments were not piercing to the ear. The sound was well-rounded and could even be compared to that of headphones. What’s in the Box? IEMs don’t usually look like they’re made for gaming, but somehow the HyperX has managed to do just that. Cable The unique cable of the Cloud Buds
