About this deal

Air allows cool airflow to pass directly over your head, further enhancing the performance of vents and internal So whenever you're making your last sprint to the finish line, want to ride a time trial or triathlon as fast as possible, or simply stay ahead of your friends during your weekly Sunday ride, you'll love having the Giro Vanquish MIPS helmet on your head! The new Vivid shield by Zeiss is what most riders will see as the defining feature of the Vanquish. This magnetic shield makes the Vanquish even faster by streamlining airflow, and features an all new road-tuned Vivid™ lens that increases contrast and definition while keeping colors true-to-life. One of the most technologically advanced road cycling helmets on the market, the Giro Vanquish MIPS Aero bike helmet is filled with features to streamline airflow for reduced drag and increased aero efficiency. TransformAir technology gives you that extra little nudge, while the RocLoc Air system works to add cooling power and maximise comfort. Additionally, Giro builds each Vanquish MIPS helmet with a dual-layer EPS foam liner, with a softer-density foam next to the head and a harder, more durable foam further out near the four-piece polycarbonate shell. According to Giro, this double-layer design is better at absorbing impact energy from a wider range of crash severities than any single-density design.

The Vanquish Mips® is the pinnacle of high-performance road-cycling helmets, featuring the innovative TransformAir However, it’s worth noting that the shield was also the source of two frustrations, as well. First, getting the shield into the up position sometimes requires a bit of finesse to get just right. The magnets, while stronger, are hidden inside the helmet, so you cannot as easily get it placed (especially while riding). Second, and really more serious, the lens has “Vivid Optics by Zeiss” printed on the bottom left. This was a pretty annoying distraction that constantly entered our field of vision. And while it would not prevent us from buying or recommending the Vanquish, we feel like it was significant enough to warn anyone considering purchasing the Vanquish. (Note to Giro: make a version of the shield with the lettering removed and you really will have us sold!)

Smith Dispatch Helmet

In our testing, we found the Vanquish to be exactly what Giro promised us – a much cooler helmet. Giro claims that it is near the Synthe in terms of cooling and in our (fairly nonscientific) head test, we felt it was a claim that at the very least passed our test. The Vanquish is surprisingly cool, even with the shield on. The two small vents above the eyes allow a surprising amount of air to circulate over your face. We even found ourselves questioning if this was just our imagination or some sort of placebo effect. But even a few hours into a mid-July ride in Florida, we still didn’t feel the need to just let our head air out. We rode both with and without the shield, and honestly we found we preferred the shield on. The ventilation was that good, and the unobstructed view beat even some of the sunglasses we routinely ride with. Certification:• Complies with the US CPSC safety standard for bicycle helmet for persons age 5 and older All Giro helmets are designed to reduce as much energy as possible while meeting and exceeding stringent safety Four generously sized indentations are also positioned on the underside of the front of the helmet — in between the expanded polystyrene liner and your forehead — to help bring in more cooling air, especially around the browpad to help prevent sweat from dripping down into your face.

Inside the Vanquish is an EPS liner with progressive layering, and our renowned RocLoc® Air system seamlessly integrated with MIPS Technology to enhance comfort and cooling power while providing an additional measure of protection.protection. So whether you're hammering off the front, smashing an Ironman course, or laying down maximum wattage in I’ve only been able to sample the new Giro Vanquish MIPS helmet on a single ride so far, although with 130km (81 miles) of distance, a substantial 1,200m (4,000ft) of climbing — nearly all of which came in a single ascent at the ride’s halfway point — and warm, humid temperatures that hovered around 29°C (84°F), there was still opportunity to get a good feel for how it would perform over a longer period. integrated with Mips Technology to enhance comfort and cooling power while providing an additional measure of It was particularly noticeable when climbing. Even on short ascents of five minutes, I could feel the change in temperature, becoming noticeably more sweaty and uncomfortable. True to claims, ventilation performance seemed better with the shield in place than stowed, too (perhaps due to the fact that doing so partially obscures the forward-facing vents).

Enhancing aero efficiency, the ZEISS Vivid Shield provides a full field of vision, while maintaining the helmet's fast and streamlined silhouette. Keeping the road sharp and in detail, this lens offers true to life colours whilst effectively increasing contrast for great clarity and road insight. There is one issue I have with the Vanquish and whilst it might be relatively trivial to many it is the proverbial fly in the ointment for me. The looks. When it first arrived, the squared off shaping and awkward split personality styling reminded me of a Horseshoe Crab (look it up). Not the most beautiful of creatures. This revolutionary fit system adds a new dimension to helmet performance by enhancing cooling, as well as fit comfort

Giro believes that helmets According to Giro, the compact aero outer carapace is the slipperiest helmet it’s made in terms of all-angle aero. To be exact, it claims that it saves 60 seconds over 100-miles at 25mph compared to the existing Vanquish, 160 seconds over the Aether climbing helmet, and nearly 14 seconds over the ‘closest competitor’. While I’ve not been in a wind tunnel wearing it, it’s certainly very quiet on windy days wherever the blow is coming from. Plus although the centre strip is solid there’s a surprising amount of vents (I count 17 in total, though Giro says 14) across the front and around the sides.
