The most powerful effects suite in the Gigcaster 8 is definitely on the guitar input though. This channel comes loaded with an entire guitar signal chain, using BOSS's latest amp and effects models taken directly from the GT-1000. There is a huge range of tones available in the bundled presets alone, from fantastic feeling high gain amps to beautiful ambient cleans, acoustic simulation, rotary speakers, you name it. What is different about this Gigcaster 8 is that it is guitar-centric and has built in guitar and singing multi-effects. It also uses the standard Boss effects pedal 9v power (or USB power) which is super convenient for us guitar players who have lots of these laying around (often with extra long cables). But which is right for you? The Gigcaster 5's streamlined approach is ideal for users that don't require physical effect pads or the extra three channels, however, if you're searching for that advanced functionality, consider the Gigcaster 8's upgraded feature set. Bottom line, I'm really surprised Boss missed the opportunity with this and question if it should carry the Boss name. Do I love it? Yes, I kept it. I still recommend it for solo singing guitarists. Boss have announced the upcoming release of the Gigcaster 5 and Gigcaster 8, a pair of new audio streaming mixers aimed at musicians creating online audio and video content. Both models feature a built-in USB audio interface which can be used by a DAW or streaming software, as well as boasting direct integration with popular platforms such as YouTube, Facebook Live and Twitch.
