The maximum amount of prayer points that can be received with the penance powder from a single hit caps at 100, or 2.5% of 4,000 damage. The penance aura has its own separate 100 prayer point cap, but double the effectiveness, 5% of 2,000 damage. When combined together this means the player can receive a maximum of 200 prayer points per hit received. When used with any of the spirit shields that have a passive effect to reduce damage at the cost of prayer points. The penance powder will restore the player's prayer points based on the hit received before the spirit shields reduce the damage. This can leave the player with 0 prayer points, thus turning their prayer off. The penance aura applies its prayer restoration effect after the spirit shields reduce the damage, allowing the player to retain some prayer points, thus leaving their prayer on.
