About this deal

The plunger is spring-loaded so you get a smooth seamless action when pushing down compared to other less expensive cafetière’s where the column on the plunger can move from side to side when pushing down.

Coffee Gator Cafetiere. The Best French Press In 2021?

The Coffee Gator French Press is overbuilt. Does it have to be as robust as it is? Probably not. But that is part of the allure. It has gravity, both in terms of mass as well as design. The vacuum insulated double-walled stainless-steel body keeps your coffee warm for longer and means you don’t have to worry about it breaking. A cafetiere should be comfortable to hold and pour, and you shouldn't need more than a gentle push to press the filter down.

Best cafetière for making the perfect brew - Yours

The one we are reviewing comes in a matt grey which looks stunning against the shiny chrome stainless steel lid. Forget fancy bean-to-cup coffee machines, a cafetière is the cheapest coffee maker. And it's so simple, easy to use and you get multiple cups of coffee from it. However, a fully filled 1,000ml cafetiere retained heat for longer than a fully filled 350ml cafetiere, so whatever the size of your cafetiere you should fill it up to capacity to keep it warmer for longer. Attention to detail can be missed on some of the cheaper cafetière’s and you have to be careful with things like the design of the spout. The Coffee Gator holds a litre of coffee – which in uninsulated models is often more than can be consumed before the coffee gets cold. However, with its double-wall stainless steel vacuum insulated design, the Coffee Gator keeps your coffee drinkable for longer. Portability 4/5Be prepared for trial and error as you get used to brewing with a cafetière. You'll be working out how much coffee to add and how long to brew it. Experiment with coffee varieties and steeping time (four to eight minutes) to find your preferred flavour. Four minutes is the generally accepted amount of time people let their cafetieres brew for before pressing, and is how long we left each cafetiere to brew for in our tests. Be careful not to leave it for too long, though. Once you go past the four-minute mark you risk over-extracting the coffee, which gives you a very bitter brew that most people will find unpleasant to drink.
