Play classic dungeon adventurers – elves, dwarves, fighters and healers. Find magical items, potions and weapons to help you in your quest. Work cooperatively to defeat the dungeon together, or turn on your friends to make fame and fortune yours alone. There are a couple of other variations on the theme in the box, with the addition of a dragon and a scroll, providing further objectives. These are perfectly fine, but it’s the vanilla game that makes itself feel instantly replayable. Much like classic roguelikes, part of the fun is just seeing how the dungeon will sprawl out this time. One for the end of the evening pile.

Having a rulebook you can read from cover to cover in under ten minutes is incredibly refreshing. In a time when board games are getting bigger both in size and price tag, Bag of Dungeon is a refreshing alternative to those games that come in boxes so big it takes two to carry. In short – a great game if you want to arm yourself to the teeth before a mad scrap against your friends in the competitive mode, and a really nice game for families to take their first tentative steps into a dungeon. Just manage your expectations and don’t expect the kind of epic crawl you’d expect from one of its big-box brethren.
