As far as the colour rendering goes, above you can see the light recorded an average CRI (R1-R8) of 96.6 and an extended CRI (R1-R15) of 95.0. For accurately reproducing skin tones it recorded 97.6 for R9 (red), 98.6 for R13 (closest to caucasian skin tones), and 97.1 for R15 (closest to asian skin tones). So, I say stunning light, and I guess, like almost everything in photography, that’s a subjective statement. But I really love the light this unit produces, in the situations I’ve used it. I held off working on this article as I wanted to get some good use in with the light as I’d originally planned for this review. That was to use it as my key light for food photography. DMX is the worldwide industry standard for film & television studios, theatre, broadcast, and all forms of digital networking systems. The C120D II comes with DMX capability, allowing studio creatives to maximize their range of uses for their lighting arsenal. I also found the overall fan noise to be less, versus the 120D MK I. You shouldn’t have any issues using this light during quiet interviews where the fixture is placed close to your subject. The 120d Mark 2’s DMX system is also pre-programmed with special lighting effects (i.e. thunder, fireworks, etc.) and allows users to input their own effects, creating a light that has truly limitless possibilities.Aputure also make a fresnel attachment that makes the light incredibly versatile. The attachment features an adjustable lens for flooding and spotting the light output from a 12°-42° beam angle. I haven’t been able to independently verify this, but Aputure claims the light intensity on the wide side is 14000lux, and goes up to a blinding 67000lux at a distance of 0.5M. The 1200d Pro comes with a light, a control box, and three reflectors. This includes a rolling case for the 1200d Pro and a separate case for the other two reflectors. A 25% output increase is nothing to scoff at. I first turned on the 120D MK II and lit most of the downstairs of my home with the bundled reflector mount. Before the neighbors started asking about alien invasions I turned it off and decided to try it in a few situations in real filming environments for this review. It still doesn’t quite have the output for most exterior daytime applications (depending on cloud cover and time of day), but for that, I suggest you use a 300D MK II anyway. Lighting that can be controlled remotely would be ideal for solo photographers. Nothing is more inconvenient than walking over to the light and returning to the lens to see how it appears. When selecting Auto/Force mode, the fan can also rotate at its top speed. The heat dissipation performance and LED durability are both improved by this complicated fan arrangement. The 1200d Pro fixture is aimed at the pro/rental market, requiring a better build quality. The LS 1200d Pro has a weather-resistant construction so that it can withstand inclement weather. There are no controls on the light its self. All controls are located on the controller/ballast. As you can see in the image above, the 1200d Pro is boxier than the 600d Pro. The 120d MKII boasts an incredible luminance of 135,000 lux at 0.5 meters away with the Aputure Fresnel. With an approximate brightness equivalent to a 1,000-watt tungsten light, the 120d MK2 is nearly 25% brighter than the 1st generation C120D, making it competitive with some of the highest-grade studio lights on the market. The original C120D was revolutionary for its compact size and high build quality. The 120dM2 now takes this a step further with a new round of upgrades.
