For instance, the unresponsive midsole of the 2.0 was not popular. The 2.5 replaces this firmer midsole with a soft midsole without degenerating into a squishy midsole.

Performance: B+/A- (You're definitely getting what you signed up for. Low riding neutral shoe. Decent responsiveness and good natural transitions. A little difficult to use with faster efforts or anything that requires change of direction.) Personal: B (Solid fitting shoe with good comfort. Versatility does extend into casual wear. Running is smooth and fun, though my calves can get a little sore. Can't run too fast in them.) Only one group of wearers might find the Escalante 2.5 unsatisfactory: those with High arches. The features that make the 2.5 perfect for flat feet work against those with a drastically curved instep.

The beauty of the Altra Escalante 2.5 is its versatility. It is designed for both long runs and sprints. These all-stars can function as trail shoes or road shoes, equally efficient on smooth surfaces and dicey terrain. I love the front of the shoe, but it starts to disappoint when looking toward the midfoot and heel.

Whether it's for daily running, tempo days, biking, hiking, or even racewalking, the Altra Escalante 3 can handle it all. A wide, gently rounded FootShape™ toe box provides room for toes to spread and assume a natural foot shape for increased comfort and stability. Midsole We feel like the word "natural" best describes the Altra Escalante 3's performance. It is low to the ground and is not overly soft. There is nothing extra about it. The 2.0 also faced criticism for its toe box. The 2.5 toe box is wider and slightly taller, providing more room and comfort. This allowed us to take the shoe out on a longer run like 10K. The cushioning did a fantastic job preventing our feet from feeling trashed by the end of the run.

David: The Altra Escalante is a minimalist road running shoe that has a very natural feel to it. The shoe uses a 0mm drop platform, meaning there is no difference in height between the heel and the forefoot. The shoe has moderately flexible design to it and a comfortable knit upper. For some this will be a walking shoe/running shoe double and for some it could even be a speed work shoe. Let’s start with the colors, shall we? WOMEN’S ALTRA ESCALANTE 2.5 As this Escalante 2.5 review has illustrated, the 2.5 manages to preserve the characteristics that made the original model famous while resolving some of the issues users raised regarding the 2.0. With its Zero Drop™ platforms, Innerflex™ grooved outsoles, and Altra Ego™ midsole, the Escalante 2.5 offers multiple features other brands will find difficult to challenge.
