The Translator

Plain-spoken, headstrong Ophelia cares little about appearances. Her ability to read the past of objects is unmatched in all of Anima and, what’s more, she possesses the ability to travel through mirrors, a skill passed down to her from previous generations. Her idyllic life is disrupted, however, when she is promised in marriage to Thorn, a taciturn and influential member of a distant clan. Ophelia must leave all she knows behind and follow her fiancé to Citaceleste, the capital of a cold, icy ark known as the Pole, where danger lurks around every corner and nobody can be trusted. There, in the presence of her inscrutable future husband, Ophelia slowly realizes that she is a pawn in a political game that will have far-reaching ramifications not only for her but for her entire world. A lush, romantic tale about family, duty, and discovering your independence, this book is going to be a crowd pleaser!” Throughout the book, Ophelia faces many challenges and obstacles, both physical and emotional. She is forced to adapt to the new customs and expectations of her new home, while also trying to uncover the truth behind the mysteries of the Arks. One day she is confronted with the fact that she must marry Thorn, the accountant of an entirely different ark, known everywhere for his cool, logical and dismissive manner. Ophelia must leave the only home she has ever known and go to Citaceleste. A cold ark, where there is always snow and the northern lights dance in the sky during the eternal night. But Thorn soon makes it clear that Ophelia's presence is not welcome. For Thorn's clan is notorious for its powers. With their claws, the members can inflict pain on others without even touching them. Soon Ophelia finds herself in the midst of intrigue and surrounded by people with different skills and must decide - who is friend and who is foe? Ophelia’s role is to spy on the other Arks for Thorn’s family and discover what they are keeping secret. In an effort to protect her own family and find out the truth about her new spouse, she unwillingly agrees to the duty, but she subsequently regrets it. However, soon after, she receives a surprise marriage proposal from Thorn, a prominent and well-known member of the Dragon clan from the Ark of the Pole. Despite her reservations, Ophelia must accept the proposal since the Arks have a tradition of arranging marriages based on power and ancestry. When she is promised to marry a distant clan’s influential member, she doesn’t know what to do. The individual that she would be marrying is named Thorn. He leads the Dragon clan, which has a lot of power. She doesn’t want to get married to him but feels that she has no choice (and in reality she does not, except to leave forever). Once she arrives, Ophelia finds that the man she is supposed to be marrying doesn’t really seem to have an interest in getting to know her. He seems indifferent and she is confused by his emotional stance as she thought this was about getting married. It appears that he doesn’t really care about her, and Ophelia slowly starts to realize that she may have been brought to this place for another reason entirely. She is no longer the same person she was when she first stepped foot on the Ark of the Pole because of the growth and changes she has through on her voyage. The Missing of Clairdelune, trans.
