About this deal

Chargers that don't have a standard USB Type-C connector might use a proprietary, nonstandard connector that your PC doesn’t support. If the charge cable that came with your iPad isn’t compatible with the port on your display, TV, or projector, do the following: HDMI is the standard connection used by most televisions and monitors, and should be familiar to most people. Be aware, however, as there are variants. There are micro-HDMI and even mini-HDMI connectors, as well as the standard full size, so make sure you select the right cable.

Power Delivery is inadequate for some devices, such as gaming laptops, which consume more power than current USB-C monitors can provide. These laptops may still charge when left at idle but will charge slowly (or even discharge the battery) when in use. Ethernet To charge faster, your PC, charger, and cable must all support the industry standards. Your charger and cable must also support the power levels your PC requires for the faster charging. For example, if your PC requires 12V and 3A for the fastest charging, a 5V, 3A charger won’t give you the fastest charging. IMPORTANT - this IS genuinely hard to get right, and we have only used/tested so many combinations.

Ports

As a hook-up, USB-C to USB-C can be ideal - you can have just one cable carrying the video signal, data (e.g. for the calibration side of things, or to enable downstream USB/ SD card ports on the monitor, audio (if your monitor has speakers, or an audio output) - AND even power.

Usually, a task which should essentially be “plug this into this” becomes complex and time consuming. However, don’t let this dissuade you from accomplishing your monitor goal, just make sure you do plenty of research before buying a cable, and make sure it’s the one you need. PC screen only: You’ll see everything on your Surface screen. (When you're connected to a wireless projector, this option changes to Disconnect.) Splitters are supported in DisplayPort connections, for example, which will allow you to use one port on the laptop to connect a number of monitors, although this isn’t a very economical way to do it since it might be a bit expensive. In addition, we’d recommend choosing a new HDMI cable unless you’re confident that yours is fairly new. The HDMI specification has also changed over time, and older cables might not give you HD, or even 4K. For the best performance, look for HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 2.1, but anything over 1.4 should function. Whether you’re looking to buy a new display with a particular connector, or want to identify ones on an older screen, here’s a complete guide to monitor cable types and what they can do. What Are The Different Monitor Cable Types?Make sure your PC, the external display, and the cable all support DisplayPort or MHL alternate modes. If necessary, switch to the correct video source on the display, TV, or projector. If you need help, see the manual that came with your display. This table lists recommended adapters for different Surface devices so you can find an adapter that connects to your external monitor. Additional adapters that may work, depending on your device, include: A lot of us here at Creative Bloq use USB-C monitors, and we've tested a wide range of options. As with any display, when choosing the best USB-C monitors, we've considered picture quality, resolution, aspect ratio, contrast ratio, viewing angles and brightness. But not all monitors with USB-C are created equal. Wattage is all important because, while many USB-C ports offer around 60W PD, which should power a laptop, some are rated as low as 15W, and we've kept an eye on this in our ultimate list below. So you’ve got your cable and you’ve connected it up. You may well find that Windows has done the rest for you, and your monitor is now duplicating everything on the built-in screen.
