About this deal

Excellent review! Shame the original TrimUI device is difficult / expensive to get hold of now that it’s been replaced by the PowKiddy A66.

Copy the firmware zip file to SD card (by USB SD card reader), mount into Game device, turn on power. Unfortunately, the 320×240 resolution on the IPS LCD display never fits quite right. The GameBoy Advance is always my starting point for these handhelds, and it ran at 240×160. The problem, for those who don’t spend way too much time thinking of these sorts of things, is that you want to be able to scale an image up in whole numbers to keep things looking as accurate as possible. If you doubled the dimensions of a GBA image to 480×320, then each pixel of the original image could just become 4 pixels in the new version and it would effectively look the same. Without a whole value to multiple, things get muddied and weird. A tag already exists with the provided branch name. Many Git commands accept both tag and branch names, so creating this branch may cause unexpected behavior. Are you sure you want to create this branch? MinUI is a focused, custom launcher and libretro frontend for the RGB30, Trimui Smart, Miyoo Mini(s), and Anbernic RG35XX. I sold my gameboy micro a long time ago and always regretted it. Now this little handheld fills the void perfectly. I’ll get something else when I want to play higher end systems but as a Genesis/SNES/GBA machine it works great for me. ReplyBut based on the button configuration and the previous Trimui Smart, it would be safe to guess that we could expect that this is not gonna be a powerhouse emulation console. Does this have software or hardware shutdown? Probably a daft question, but if it had hardware shutdown it could be suitable for my youngest daughter. No 3.5mm Headphone Input (Only Bluetooth Headphones)..You Can Use USB-C headphones or a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter Though. This level of hardware allows for decent SNES emulation with exceptions for games such as Yoshi’s Island in which I am only able to achieve 14 FPS. Many PS1 games run at an acceptable speed as long as you’re not too sensitive to frameskip. For most systems below these you’re good, and both GBA and Mega Drive are great on this hardware. BUILD QUALITY AND CONTROLS

One of my favourite arcade games is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and this also played very well on the SMART. The fact that you can even pause and save your gameplay was great as I often find myself having small bouts of gameplay on these handhelds when sat around waiting for appointments or in a cafe. My main gripes would be that the screen is just too small for many people. My eyesight is OK so 2″ is just about acceptable, but even a 2.4″ screen would have been noticeably easier on the eyes. The device lasts about 3 hours on a charge, which is OK but shorter than we are used to. Ooooo I'm getting nostalgic just reading this Article. I remember over 10 years ago when I first got into Obscure…Most people will compare this with the Miyoo Mini. Whilst the Miyoo was vertical, the SMART is horizontal in design. It was also a great quality product. The way update from manual copy trimui_tg2040.awimg to SD root, reopen with holding L+R and wait for blue LED. Simple to install, just extract the zip file as instructed and copy everything to your sdcard, overwriting whatever is needed. IMPORTANT: First boot should take 5-10min since a lot of files are being copied Instructions As I mentioned earlier, build quality is fairly solid, and whilst being a micro console, the TRIMUI SMART still has a little bit of weight to it and does not feel cheap at all. I’m always a little worried about being able to play for extended periods of time on these micro consoles, usually because I tend to get cramps in my fingers. However, as the RTIMUI SMART is slightly larger than some of the other micro consoles I have reviewed, I didn’t have this issue this time around.

nice review thank you, I just got the powkiddy at 66, to update the emulators, are those of the PowKiddy V90 compatible? Reply Talking about settings, when you go to them, you will notice that you can connect to Netplay, as well as use the SMART as a hotspot. This is useful so that you can play against others who may have the same console. You can also connect Bluetooth headphones to the console too, which you will need to do if you want to listen through headphones. Make sure machine was turned off. Press and hold "L" and "R" buttons at the same time, then turn on the machine. The machine will boot into USB recovery mode (with blank screen). PhonenixSuit will detect and find a pending device automatically.GLOBAL TRANSIT TIMES: The following are estimates only, but should give you a sense of what to expect: Trimui (pronounced ‘trim u.i.’, by the way) has seen a lot of success with their micro/affordable consoles, the Trimui Mini and the Trimui Smart. GameBoy, GameBoy Color, and NES games all seemed to run perfectly on the machine, and every SNES or GBA game I tried was totally playable with just a few trade-offs. On the GameBoy Advance side of things, I found screen tearing and audio hiccups, but it was never consistent. We’re talking about an issue every minute or so of play, which in the grand scheme of things is almost nothing.
