Aron Beauregard as everyone know is a master in term of Splatterpunk. I love his book, but this one hit differently, yes it's disgusting, yes its gore, everything you expect from him, but I felt connected to the characters, I wanted them to survive (and I don't even like kids). The story is more heartfelt, more psychological than most book I read from him. And without a doubt I loved it. I think you need this book. While the rape scenes were horrific, they were also...over the top? Like it's somehow not bad enough that the main character is raped multiple times, she has to be thrown up on during the assault. Another scene she gets raped with a piece of meat and then forced to eat it? And her unborn baby is killed horribly and she has almost no reaction to it? At the heart of this story, one can't help but develop a connection and just feel every gut wrenching punch as each child must make their choices. WARNING: If you have not read THE SLOB, this review will reveal a lot about how that story ended. Please read it first, to allow yourself the full macabre journey it takes you on, before you read any further. Vera Harlow is a survivor. After a chance encounter led to her being held captive in a disgusting house of horrors, she fought tooth and nail to escape the clutches of a man known only as The Slob. But while she may have fled the disastrous situation, the details of her struggle are now carved into her flesh and soul.

I joined Goodreads a little more than 3 and a half years ago. In all honesty, I wasn't even aware of the extreme genre - with the exception of Richard Laymon and Bentley Little. Since then, some authors approach me every now and then to read and review a book. One of my personal rules is to not write a review for a book I don't finish, so others won't know which ones I abandon. I do, however, send the author a message to tell them why I won't finish it. This story is rich in description. The reason why I rated it a 5 star. It was repulsive and vile and yet. I couldn’t stop reading it. There were moments of tension that were built up so well that I was sitting on the edge of my seat. As I sit here trying to cleanse my mind after reading this, I simply wonder....how on mother earth is someone able to write this and not be truly horrified by the thoughts in their head! Holy hell in a hand basket!

In fact, they rarely even talk, even though they still live in the same house. He can’t get over the trauma of having lost his own unborn child because of the disgusting deeds The Slob did to his wife. And he can’t forgive Vera for keeping the son of The Slob.Aron Beauregard has written an excellent sequel to The Slob. I highly recommend it to splatterpunk readers. The story follows a crazy old lady, Geraldine, who gets sexual gratification from others misery. The worse that happens to them, the more turned on she gets. So, as one does, she creates this insanely intricate indoor playground and invites three low-income families with kids to test it out. They just don’t realize this is more ‘Saw’ meets ‘Hostel’ meets ’31’ than Sesame Street. It was a joke, but sorry it didn’t land for you. You know, people go to psychiatrists for far less extreme reasons.

Beauregard has tapped into the psychology of his main characters and he writes it well, because he makes it believable. Right from the start of this story, something popped out at me – this is probably much closer to the truth than the Hollywood fluff would like you to believe. Always bleak, explicitly graphic and extreme in content, this story can be considered a masterpiece in this genre and can be enjoyed by all fans and followers of this particular brand of horror story. Pure genius! A highly original, thrilling piece of splatterpunk theatre with it's cleverly constructed, fast flowing narrative that just oozed in brilliance whilst also containing a fine array of wonderfully nefarious supporting cast of creepy characters that just leaves you wanting more and more and more.I should feel bad for Vera, with all she endured at the hands of The Slob and her life in this book. But I was kinda mad at her. She chose to have Harold but she didn't love him. Not only will Harold’s story bring about extreme emotions, but the plight of the entire Harlow family will put you through the wringer. Not a single good thing happens to this family, and things only ever get worse. I’m not a religious man, but I’ve thought about praying for this fictional family. They never stood a chance against this merciless world. The narrative, as always, flowed brilliantly and descriptively and kept me hooked from word one! If I didn't have to sleep, I would've read it in one sitting, but alas, it took me two! (No housework got done, which is pretty apt for this story! 😉) Oliver Fitch has a troubling issue; he lives in a state of constant terror. After purchasing a convenience store in a once civil society, the streets around him have rapidly devolved into utter lawlessness. They're now festering with sinister gutter scum that only live to harass and intimidate him. His pathetic profits are gouged under the threat of violence and there isn't a damn thing he can do about it. Because in a city with no rules, where the sun never shines, the authorities are no help. In fact, they're an equal part of the problem. Ha ha yeah I guess so Jon. And I’m sure you’re a stand up guy who loves to read stories about women being assaulted and tortured. I guess we’ve all got our things, but I know which I’d rather be 😂

The long awaited and highly anticipated sequel to The Slob, follows Vera and how well, or not, she is dealing with the aftermath of her terrifying encounter with The Slob, and her relationship with her son Harold, who was born out of the horror she endured in the first book. The bar has been set. For any of you who feels the violence and depravity is the most important part of the story, you need to read this book to learn about character development - because when the reader cares for the protagonist, they can FEEL the bad things happening.I'm a little confused on how I feel about this book. Not confused on if I liked it or not, I absolutely did love this book. But I'm confused on my feelings for the characters. This book isn’t for me, extreme horror really isn’t my thing but to suggest readers of this book need psychiatric help is narrow minded and reductive. By that logic anyone who enjoys horror of any kind could be considered disturbed. The characters are well fleshed out, the story makes sense, but deep inside all the gore there is a commentary about parenthood and the ills of the world we live in. Psychologically speaking, this is a study in all that can be done incorrectly to a child.
