About this deal

I liked this book, but I never would have made it in his situation. I can't really express how much I admire this man and how he persevered in the face of everything he went through. During the course of one year, he mentions dealing with malaria for at least one-third to one half of the time. That's crazy. As for the writing itself, it can be a bit repetitive at times, but that's reflective of what he went through. When you deal with malaria numerous times, it's going to be mentioned numerous times. This isn't a criticism, it's just an observation. The Jungle is Neutral" is British soldier, Spencer Chapman's incredible story of his three and a half years in the Malayan jungle during World War II. A moving unforgettable saga of deadly encounters with the enemy, fortitude, horrifying diseases, death, and ultimately, victory. A story of true grit, endurance and survival beyond the normal capacity for survival. Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.1

It’s always your interpretation of things that’s the problem, not the thing itself. And it’s your interpretation of market events that are the problem, not the events themselves. I can't begin to explain what the rain forest is like. To explain it, you'd have to be a poet and a scientist and a horror writer. All I can say is how it makes you feel. You feel small. Tiny. Alone. Hopelessly weak. Afraid. When Singapore fell to the Japanese in December 1941, Captain Freddie Spencer Chapman chose to take the fight to the enemy . My Perentie FFR in “expedition” mode at Normanton in Queensland’s Gulf Country on my way from Darwin to Cape YorkGino Watkins moulded an extraordinary esprit de corps in his expeditions, and the expedition members were a mixture of hard nuts, and rather fey Cambridge misfits. [ citation needed] Many of the members would go on to do extraordinary things in the war. These members included Martin Lindsay, Augustine Courtauld and Chapman himself. This chapter “The Ghost Soldiers”, showed us how Tim O’Brien and the other soldiers were dealing with the war both physically and psychologically. It also shows us how the Tim O'Brien behaved and felt when he was shot, wounded and had a bacteria infection on his butt and how the war changed the way he thought, and viewed the other soldiers around him. The decisions and outcomes of these groups were not predetermined by destiny nor fate nor lottery. It was the investors’ actions that led to the results they got. That’s it. Actions that were under their control. Actions that are freely available to any market participant, if they choose.

The Mission to the Tibetan capital departed from Gangtok (Sikkim) in late July 1936 and left Tibet just over six months later in February 1937. The aim of the Mission was to advise the Regent of Tibet and his Cabinet, to persuade the Panchen Lama to return from China where he had fled, and, if possible, to establish permanent British representation in Lhasa. The mission personnel, under the leadership of Gould, included Hugh Richardson, the British Trade Agent at Gyantse, and Lieutenant Evan Nepean, one of two telegraph operators sent from the Royal Signal Corps. Now, let’s talk about the galvanised chassis. This is a feature that sets the Perentie apart from many other off-road vehicles. Galvanisation adds a layer of zinc to the steel, providing excellent corrosion resistance. This is particularly beneficial if you’re planning to take your Perentie through saltwater crossings or coastal environments where the salty air can accelerate rust. It’s a long-term investment in the durability of the vehicle, and it’s one of the reasons why you’ll find 30-year-old Perenties with their chassis still in excellent condition compared to their non-gal’d civilian counterparts of the same era. Epictetus reminds us that even in bad times, there is opportunity. But it’s not comfortable nor easy. While I doubt Epictetus was thinking about investment markets when he wrote this, it perfectly explains the proper investment mindset during tough markets: Acceptance of this responsibility replaces a victim mentality with an agency mentality. You free yourself from being reactive to being proactive. From defensive to offensive.Field Marshal Wavell in his introduction describes Chapman as a less introspective or reflective TE Lawrence. That’s fair. He’s not without his depths, but he doesn’t like to let them show. Moynahan, Brian (2009) Jungle Soldier: The True Story of Freddy Spencer Chapman, Quercus, ISBN 1-84916-076-7 It gives you a glimpse of how living in the jungle during the Japanese Occupation in WW2 feels like. What's cool is that the author is a British soldier who graduated from Cambridge and an expert in guerilla warfare. He lived with the Chinese guerillas, barely had food to eat, waded through a river with crocodiles, captured by the Japanese and there's a lot more life-threatening experience that you can read from this book. It somehow made me appreciate more of my grandparents for enduring through such a horrible and difficult period in Malaya. This is simple goal-directed behavior. John Leach, who has studied why some people survive extreme events and others perish, explains why goal-directed behavior is critical to responding well under adversity: These army patrol ration dehydrated meals were developed by the Defence Science and Technology Organisation’s Food and Nutrition section in Scottsdale in Tasmania and are available to ADF personnel in a wide range of flavours in the different PR1M menus.
