About this deal

I'm certain of it. You'll have the time of your life." He hesitated then, and I could tell he was ramping up to something else. Suddenly, I knew what it was and my stomach did a giddy flip.

That was one of the hardest things about breaking up. It's not a pair of bookends, the beginning and the end. It's the unraveling of the future.” Hannah – when we were friends and before we were more than friends – used to complain about girls like that, the ones who wanted to use me to see what it was like, and to be honest there was a time when I would have agreed with her. Like when I was fourteen and Gracie Belle Corban said she only did it because she wanted to be able to tell Oliver Quinn that she’d kissed a girl. I cried to Hannah for a week about that. But now, well, I have different priorities. As long as we both get what we want, no strings, just good old-fashioned girl-on-girl kissing, then what’s the problem? I still draw the line at girls who want to do it to make their boyfriends horny. But a girl who wants to satisfy her curiosity? I am all over that. Literally. Seventeen-year-old Saoirse (pronounced ‘Seer-sha’- be sure to get it right) is on the cusp of crossing the Irish Sea to read history at Oxford. Except she’s not sure she wants to go. She has more than enough on her plate dealing with her dad’s remarriage, getting over breaking-up with her girlfriend, and coming to terms with her mum’s debilitating illness. She just wants to spend her summer watching horror movies and kissing girls – no strings attached. To that end, Saoirse goes to a mate’s end-of-exams party and gets it on with his cousin Ruby. Irresistibly drawn to Ruby’s good looks and good heart, Saoirse accepts her challenge to embark on a summer romance with all the serious bits left out, in finest romcom tradition. But, as Ruby sagely points out, “the thing about the falling in love montage…is that when it’s over, the characters have fallen in love”. Mekakucity Actors: The Insert Song at the end of Episode 6, Yuukei Yesterday , combines this with Good-Times Montage, as the song is explicitly about Takane struggling with her developing feelings for Haruka, and she is shown to grow more and more in love with him as the song progresses, but it's also inter-cut with some fun times with Shintaro and Ayano. The Little Mermaid: Before "Kiss the Girl" even hits the screen there's a love montage between Ariel and Eric touring the kingdom. Stuart Little 2 has is a love montage between Stuart and Margalo as they enjoy spending time together, such as Margalo watching Stuart skateboarding, Stuart and Margalo eating marshmallows by the Littles' warm fire. Also Stuart and Margalo at a baseball game with the Littles and Stuart and Margalo watching a romantic movie together. What I took away from The Falling in Love Montage is that it is a book is about taking opportunities as they come and living in the moment, but it is also about how it’s okay to let things go. There’s a really lovely quote that resonated with me:

Since my breakup with Hannah, I’ve had a rule, you see. I point-blank refuse to get into a relationship. An important addendum to this rule, a part B if you will, is that I don’t kiss lesbians or bi girls. I’m not saying they’d all fall in love with me or they’re all looking for a relationship, but it puts the possibility out there. If I cross that line, I’m asking for trouble. But I have a perfectly good thing going. Every girl in my school who wants to see what it’s like to kiss a girl knows (1) I’m super gay and (2) I won’t try to date them afterwards. We kiss, we part ways, no one gets hurt. Win-win. If you truly love someone, if they were ever important to you, it doesn't disappear. What it looks like might change, but that's only the surface”of 5 stars 2 of 5 stars 3 of 5 stars 4 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth Super smart and funny (“If you are a girl inclined to deface school property, may I suggest the classic penis and balls, as you will avoid suspicion due to stereotyping”), Saoirse is a lead fans of contemporary YA will love and root for - flaws and all - and her journey is a thoroughly entertaining, thought-provoking rollercoaster ride. Jelly Jamm: Parodied. In the episode "White Trainers", Goomo is given a pair of white sneakers to replace his broken flip-flops and becomes so attached to the shoes that the episode's song segment shows a montage of him interacting with them like one would interact with a significant other on a date (a Spaghetti Kiss, Watching the Sunset, etc.). This is the stuff of LGBT rom-com dreams - full of charm, wit and heart, with a very funny and relatable heroine in Saoirse. A brilliant debut." Maybe that’s what a relationship means, carrying a part of someone around for the rest of your life.”
