Jayne on REVIEW: Midnight is the Darkest Hour by Ashley Winstead @Jennie: So Ruth was "Eve" tempting the lascivious snake wit... The Conscious Cat Product Guide features all of the best products for cats and cat lovers. From furniture, scratching posts, beds and toys to food dishes and litter boxes, you’ll find everything you need for your feline family members. So as far as I’m concerned, the case is closed. You have photographic evidence that the Dalai Lama is a Cat Lover. I, HHC, have an online pawprint that grows by the day. The matter of my existence is therefore beyond dispute. I am reading about the life of Albert Schweitzer, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952. He was a very compassionate man, very sincere. I have just read something he said: ‘Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown into flame by an encounter with another human being. Each of us owes the deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this inner light.’ I agree with that, don’t you, HHC?” This is a question that has come up a lot recently. Can you believe the cheek of it?! People will study the sumptuous elegance of my delightfully fluffy coat, admire my thousand whiskers and gaze directly into the oceanic blueness of my eyes. And even though they immediately recognise me as the author of the most intriguing volume of memoirs to hit the bookstores this Fall – well, someone had to say it – they still ask: “Yes, but does the Dalai Lama really have a cat?”

The Dalai Lama’S Cat And The Four Paws Of Spiritual Success

The Conscious Cat is a comprehensive resource for conscious living, health and happiness for cats and their humans. A very entertaining dip into Buddhist thinking through the eyes of a cat, not just any cat, but the Dalai Lama’s cat.She learns that it is not so much the circumstances of our lives as how we view them. Also that it is not the purpose of Buddhism to convert people but to give them tools so they can create greater happiness. Little Snow Lion notices that sometimes the people at a local cafe (that is honored so serve her delicious tidbits) don’t take the time to appreciate the moment and practice an important Buddhist principle –“mindfulness means paying attention to present moments deliberately and non-judgmentally.” Cats enjoying their dining have already got that covered. Hi David, I´m wondering whether the Dalai Lama knows about your book? I hope he does! It was a joy to read it, thanks! and one more question: was the cat real? I red articles about the book and I understood that the cat was real just the story you created around her was fictional. Is it right? I am asking because my english is not the best and I might misunderstood it. Thank you!

Does the Dalai Lama really have a cat? – David Michie Does the Dalai Lama really have a cat? – David Michie

Having already a profound and fulfilling connection with my own feline friend, I have observed a further deepening in our shared moments while reading this book. Thank you! I adore your style of writing and now you are my favourite author by far. Looking forward to the next two! Thank you so much Brinda, for your very generous words! I am so glad your relationship with your own feline friend is a deeper one too! Warm wishes, David I would love to give a copy to my close Italian friend, and I wonder if your books have been translated into Italian?

As a cat lover, one often wonders what goes on behind the calm-on-the-surface faces of these felines. If one were to go by David Michie’s cat creation, quite a lot. HHC is as much at a loss as we humans in dealing with everyday life and problems. Living with the Dalai Lama and other monks, HHC gives us a first-hand account of how to practise mindfulness, the true cause of happiness and that Dharma isn’t about ‘mouthing high-sounding principles’. The cat goes all out to evolve into a ‘true bodhicatva’! Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing these books. I believe you must have been a cat in another life because you write so intuitively from Rinpoche’s point of view. I do find reading self help books dry and don’t do well with them. I have learned so much from Rinpoche in the 3 books. I even just start reading them again when I just need to calm down from my crazy days. (I start work by 6 AM so I can be at the nursing home with my mom at dinnertime each night) Please do not stop adding to this series so I can continue to learn from one of my favorite cats and continue down the path of enlightenment. This got me thinking about how to weave key themes and messages into a fictional format. When I heard that the Dalai Lama once had a cat, being a pet lover myself, I immediately though of what an amazing life the cat must have. If only it could talk.

The Dalai Lama’s Cat series – David Michie

Sign up for my newsletter. You’ll hear from me once or twice a month with blogs and other news designed to be stimulating and useful. An injured kitten is rescued from the streets of Delhi by the Dalai Lama himself. She is a Himalayan species with blue eyes and a furry coat. The adorable kitten goes on to become the blue-eyed (literally) girl of the Dalai Lama’s household at Dharamshala. His Holiness’s Cat or HHC as she is first called, later gets many other names- Bodhicatva, Snow Lion, Rinpoche, The-most-beautiful-creature-on-earth and many more. I am a person with chronic pain and your Dalai Lama’s cat series has been such a comfort to me. The messages of Buddhism included in the novels are inspiring and full of hope. Please write more of this series! They are such a breath of fresh air in a world filled with anger, hatred and violence. We need to keep hearing about impermanence and what brings true happiness. I’m reading and enjoying The Magician of Llasa right now. You are so talented and have so much wisdom to share. Thank you.

Hi David ~ I sure hope HHC’s adventures continue in further books. I love the series, and I think it was a brilliant idea of yours! Hugs. David, I bought the Dalai Lama’s Cat purely because of my love of cats. What a beautiful surprise! I literally sobbed through the book, I don’t mean cry, it was heart wrenching wails. The messages obviously had a profound effect on me..lol. Dear Malka, Thank you so much for your warm and generous message. I am so glad that the Dharma is resonating with you! Here’s wishing you a very happy festive season and all the best with your Dharma journey in 2016! Warm wishes, David I blush to admit that I know only a little bit about Buddhism – probably only enough to be dangerous. But as our little Bodhicatva is taken into the household of the Dalai Lama (“she must have a very close karmic connection to him”) and starts to learn, so do I by reading. She must not only agree with the principles of her new religion but also live them – no more giving into her instincts and chasing mice. The Dalai Lama understands her moment of weakness but encourages her not to give up on herself as the buddhas haven’t given up on her. What if it could talk? Or even … write a book? That was the start of The Dalai Lama’s Cat series. One thing I hadn’t counted on was how engaged readers would become in the life of His Holiness’s Cat – or HHC, to give her official title. Because the simple fact is that characters and stories engage us at an emotional level, which most non-fiction books do not. Novels can speak not only to our minds, but also to our hearts. Hi David, I’m halfway through and loving this book. There have been many touching moments for me throughout the story – you have conveyed the elusive nature of Dharma realisation very well. As she grows into a beautiful cat, HHC has her own share of adventures, meets a tabby cat admirer from ‘downtown McLeodGanj’, attends teaching sessions by monks and tells us all about her learnings. HHC takes us with her as she moves between the Dalai Lama’s residence in Dharamshala, the Namgyal Monastery and Cafe Franc (a neighbourhood cafe). Her keen observations and reported conversations in these places bring us little gems of Buddhist wisdom. Passages from the book that stays with me…
