At the end of the day Tension is just an extremely average game. There is nothing terribly wrong with the game but it also doesn’t really do anything original either. It is pretty much the most basic speed game that you could ever find. You can have some fun with the game but it is a game that hasn’t aged particularly well. The game is fine as a very basic speed game but there have been many better speed games created since Tension was released. Designers have found ways to improve on everything that Tension has to offer where I don’t know if it really pays to play what is now an inferior speed game. Tension is an example of a game that is past its prime. Should You Buy Tension? The game suggests playing as two teams of two but can be just as easily played without the scoring board and team rules - just challenge each other and see who knows the most. You only get 1 minute to give as many answers as you can on a subject, therefore the questions are not the most difficult.Tension is a naming game of classic proportions. The game includes loads of questions with 10 given answers to those questions. There may be more answers than are written in those 10 but only the 10 on the card count! I still don’t think there are many direct replacements for this game. I guess the ideas been done right, so, you just update it year after year?

In three and four player games each player takes two discs of each color. For a two player game each player takes four discs of each color.If you’re a bit of a list fanatic, then you’ll enjoy this game. I think I’d be happy just reading through all the cards, but turning lists into a board game is a lot of fun. I can see how good it would be with a crowd of people. It’s all a bit of fun and with teams playing and shouting out, it could get chaotic trying to keep score and hear all the answers shouted out. Covering topics like foods, brands, clothing, inventors, films and sports, there’s a great breadth of topic to ponder over. Some serious and some more fun.

Like a lot of these type of games where all of the players rush to do something at the same time, really aggressive players can ruin the game. There will regularly be two or more players trying to place a disc in the same space at the same time. This could lead to some minor injuries as players accidentally slap or scratch one another. With aggressive players things could get quite a bit worse. If you are only playing with three players you will fill in one of the spaces for each color on the gameboard with one of the dark blue covers. With the cards being double sided, it means it will take a while to work through all the cards. Some of ours were quite straight topics, but one of mine was ‘types of bed’ – and it wasn’t just furniture beds included. I totally missed out things like ‘sea bed’! What’s more is that the base game covers so many different topics, themes and genres that every player has their chance to show off a speciality subject whilst not having a clue in others. Brilliant for helping your children expand their vocabulary and create some truly gripping pieces of creative writing.
