About this deal

The characters are some of the best characters I read at all! They were so well written and so fleshed out, I could relate to them and I loved them and I mourned them and I can’t stop thinking about them. I think the author was smart because the book had 2 POVs, one of the characters was a young kid and the other was his mother and I am assuring you that this worked a 1000% positively for the book. But the great thing about the characters is that I even cared about the secondary ones and I can still picture them all in the village in my mind! The worldbuilding of this book is especially immersive and deep. We only get to see parts of Kaigenese Empire (especially Takayubi village where the most of the book takes place) and some parts of Carytha. The planet Duna is somewhat a parallel of our own world with similar level of technology. Kaigen is an unique blend of Korea and Japan, while Ranga reads like Imperial China. Yamma is somewhat Afrofuturistic version of United States. While usually I'm not a fan of somewhat direct parallels, Wang enticed me with her own spin that these countries and cultures feel like genuine high fantasy world. Fantasy and martial arts aficionados alike should enjoy this emotionally supercharged novel about love and loss, which pierces readers’ hearts with the precision of a samurai’s razor-sharp blade.” – Blue Ink ★ Starred Review stars from start to finish for this exceptional Japanese-inspired military fantasy standalone. As of this moment, The Sword of Kaigen has become not only one of the four best self-published books I’ve ever read, but also my personal number one favorite self-published book. bali1) a Yammaninke preposition (applied as a suffix to a noun) meaning ‘without’ 2) a Yammaninke verb meaning ‘obstruct,’‘hinder’ or ‘prevent.’

Blood Needle a jijaka bloodline technique unique to the Tsusano family, wherein the practitioner takes control of a small amount of the blood inside their victim’s body and freezes it in the shape of needle, which is used to strike pressure points or pierce vital organs, called ‘Chihari’ in Shirojima Dialect. You learn over time that the world isn’t broken. It’s just... got more pieces to it than you thought. They all fit together; just maybe not the way you pictured when you were young.” It will be sad! Your standalone adult fantasy books is one of my most anticipated books, it’s up there with Stormlight #4. No kidding.Setting: The book has a very creative setting. It's a secondary world high fantasy with a world that I at first thought was modelled on 1500s-1600s Japan, but it soon becomes clear that the world is actually quite modern, but the characters purposefully live a very traditional lifestyle. I really liked the setting - I thought it was a cool concept to juxtapose the traditional and modern the way that the author did. The characters all live on a mountain on the edge of a country inspired by Japan - it's a cold, wintery world and the characters practice a water/ice elemental magic which I felt was conveyed well atmospherically. Nnyandonthe third day of the eight-day Dunian week, named for the mythical human ancestor Nnyan from the Donkili, a day of work.

If you’re only interested in adult fantasy featuring martial arts and action in the vein of Kaigen, you can find hundreds of thousands of words of that in the Altima-universe serials, Gunpowder Magnolia, Seven Forsaken, and Sazuma on my Patreon. Koronkalothe fifth month of the twelve-month Dunian calendar, named for Queen Koronkan Wagadu, the third queen of Yamma (roughly coincides with Earth’s November). nanjutsuan ancient fighting style developed in the southern part of the current Ranganese Union (then part of the Kaigenese Empire).

There are other relevant themes that mirror our current society, as state-run news and propaganda are used as tools to influence public opinion without revealing what’s really happening in the surrounding world. There is an outside character named Kwang who serves as a proxy for the reader, as he possesses advanced technology and is aware of government propaganda, yet has little real knowledge of the quiet, hidden culture the story is set within. kamayaa term referring to traditional Yammanka social hierarchy, including but not limited to the practice of powerful koronu providing for members of other kafonu in exchange for their services, and young people serving and apprenticing with more experienced members of their own kafo.
