About this deal

I bought these for my 7 year old daughter and she loves them. So much cheaper and better quality than officeworks headphones. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend (The Ramones): Vocals sound clear. Drums sound clear. Bass sounds clear. Guitar sounds clear. Nothing to complain about here. The bass is kinda just a bit stronger than my preferred but can be tuned down just a bit. But for sure, entire bass frequency area is really amazing~ Is tight too~

While comfort is ok, when wearing glasses they can be uncomfortable if you don't position them just right. Inside are two sets of cables, a one meter and a 3 meter cable, a carrying pouch, a ¼ adaptor and a product manual. Like all consumer goods this isn't perfect. As you can imagine some corner had to be cut deep to get this price, and that corner was cut in build quality. Plastic is light and the earcups make a creaking sound when moved. Cheapest plastic for a headband and hard foam in the earpads. Despite being semi open the ears heat up after an hour or two and the pads are drenched in sweat after that. The wire doesn't isolate noise that well so when you tap it you'll hear it in the headphone. At least the whole thing is light as. Due to being a monitor it does not perform that well with dialogue, which definitely sounded better in my Sennheiser.I bought these to listen to music and for playing PC games after reading online recommendations. I have them connected to a Monolith Liquid Spark headphone amp connected to my PC's onboard DAC line out. After EQ-ing the 4-5k region the sound is much more coherent and enjoyable, but then the treble around 8-10k or maybe even higher becomes another issue one which I have yet to EQ properly. It makes the sound of cymbals and S sounds quite piercing and harsh on music that is not very well recorded and generally pushes cymbals too forward.

After playing around with an EQ, I mostly adjusted the 5k and up, by simple lowering them more and more the higher up I advanced in frequencies. Now this may be placebo, but I felt the presentation and sonical experience turned muddy and veiled. So I tried a second alternative, add cotton pads (those round, white soft pads used for facial-cleansing and make-up removal). I simply added one pad inside each cup, fitted them right through the opening without needing to open the cups up, using my finger to slide the pad under the velour pad edges. To explain my initial reaction: it felt right. The sound was just the way I liked it, similiar sound profile that I was used to from my 595's. The sibilance was gone and I still found the headphones sounding enjoyable. Now, as I said, it may be placebo or it may not be, so it should be up to everyone to try an EQ or cotton pads. The bass is still quite the same. To be honest, I don't recall exactly how it sounded without the cotton installed, but hey, these cost 28?. Some sacrifice is inevitable. The Superlux HD681 mids have clear lower mids and lower vocals with nice warmth and good enough higher-mids crispness. There is no muffle sound at all but some highly demanding listeners could want to apply a little bump to their lower vocals, if you want to fine tune it you can apply an EQ aimed to “fix” this. The upper range of their mids are well resolved without getting harsh nor sounding rolled-off or shy. By close up though, this headphone gives a fine detail to most of those pattern (though some imperfection of build is shown) You will get a phenomenal headphone for very few Dollars / Euros / Pounds / Yen / Yuan / Bitcoins / Ounces of Gold / You Name It.

The earcups of the Superlux HD681 are very large and offer an over-ear format/fit. The headband has a self-adjusting system with a double construction made of two pieces: a leather-like wide band and twin metals rods; this kind of headband system has been used by AKG headphones for a long time. Im still not sure but probably I'll try the 681, btw how do they isolate? In case it would be too disruptive, I was thinking of going for 662? Which are basically the same but closed? The F(lat) version of these headphones sound really good. From the first play I noticed a full and surrounding sound. At this price point you probably can't find a better one. Detailed sound and full of dynamics. The bass comes out clear too, even better than the normal version of the HD681. Keep in mind that it really depends on your sound card. A good one will deliver a great sound through the F version.
