About this deal

The dial is an anthracite grey, similar to the SNXS79, which is rich and complex and changes colors slightly in different light scenarios.

It helps that it’s so light and weightless, making it good to wear in warmer summer months. It also surprisingly doesn’t tug on my arm hairs like some other cheap bracelets tend to. SNXS79 Strap Choices and Suggestions Oh, and don’t fall into the trap of thinking the more expensive watches are better. In fact, some of the more affordable Seiko 5s are my favorites! Included Bracelet or Strap To most people, “Seiko” and “budget” are already synonymous with one another. And while the iconic brand does produce dozens of high-end timepieces at the top end of the price spectrum, the efficient construction behind Seiko’s mainstream collections results in largely affordable price points throughout its catalog. While no official statement has been given by Seiko on why the SARB033 & SARB035 were discontinued, there is quite a bit of speculation. This is your chameleon Seiko. The one you can wear to a wedding, the office, drinks after the office, on a date, anywhere. Another reason it takes the top spot on my list of the best Seiko watches is its price, which likely won’t scare off even the newbiest of watch newbies. If you’re somebody who wants to swim with your watch, get a Seiko 5 Sports instead of a regular Seiko 5. The Seiko 5 Sports often have 100 meters of water resistance which is enough to safely swim with, while older models usually have around 30 meters, which is not enough. Movement Day window to show the day of the week including two language choices for the day (English and either Spanish, Arabic, Kanji, Chinese, French, German, Danish or Roman Numerals). When setting the day keep turning the crown to get to the next language. On most models SUN will be red and on some models SAT will be blue. Most all of them feature a relatively prominent ‘5’ badge under the Seiko logo at the top. I used to think the badge was kind of… Over the top. And took up too much dial real estate.

The 42mm Seiko 5 Sports “5KX” divers are a bit larger, as dive watches typically are. Traditionally, this was so dive watches could have larger hour markers, and be more legible when divers used them underwater. Today, 42mm is no longer a “large” watch by modern standards. This is closer to the watch size you likely see on most people’s wrists. This is especially helpful if you already own watches and watch straps with an 18mm width, so you can swap between them. I also like the case design better on the SNKL45, albeit I haven't seen the SNKL23 in person so that could change my opinion about the watch overall. The only thing I prefer on the latter is perhaps the second hand, which isn't red. I might grow to like the red second hand more if I had the watch for a while, who knows. First off, it has a slightly downgraded 4R35 movement. While not technically as good as the Seiko SARB’s 6R15 movement, the 4R35 movement has the upside of being more affordable, and common. This means it’ll likely be cheaper to have the watch serviced than its 6R15 counterpart.

The majority of Seiko 5s have their crown at 4:00 instead of 3:00 like most watches. Although a bit unusual, this is a specific design trait of the 5 that makes the watch more comfortable to wear when on your wrist. Though few and far between, there are a few 5s that have a crown at 3:00, such as the SRPE35. But, I implore you to try the 4:00 crown before judging it. You may find you prefer it after all! I would definitely consider a case/guts swap with the SNKL23 bits shifted over to the SNKL4x case. Super-easy swap. Except they you're left with a case and dial combo you don't prefer. I did the same with an SNXS77, for the same reason - didn't like the case, so I swapped everything over to an SNKL4x case. Much better. Sold it just the same. Kept the SNKL41. The first time I owned it, I liked it. But I didn’t love it. At the time, I didn’t have many other watches to compare it to.Though I’ll must admit, I sometimes still wear the flimsy original bracelet on warmer days. It’s not the best quality, but light and comfortable enough for when it gets really hot out. There are some other options, though. There are also some similar Seiko 5 variants you may want to consider if you’re already looking at the SNXS79. Along with its all-polished case, this watch is often compared as a budget alternative to the much more expensive Rolex Oyster Perpetual, which typically costs around 5 figures. They were made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Seiko and became the go-to suggestion for new watch collectors.
