About this deal

I’m glad Philips didn’t butcher the headphones with an overly accentuated low end, so don’t get me wrong. The other difference is that the treble doesn’t have that bite that the 9500 had. Because of this, you can listen to it for longer periods of time without fatigue. My previous headphones include the Sennheiser Urbanite XL and the Sennheiser HD598 SE. I mainly listen to pop, EDM, and jazz.

Still, I’d recommend an Amp/DAC for best results sound-wise. I listened to both with a wide array of setups:Is the SHP9600 an upgrade over the 9500? Is the increase in price worth the investment? Did Philips actually improve on the shortcomings of the original? It sounds fuller and more impactful, while still mostly retaining all of that incredible micro-detail that the original 9500 provided in spades. There seems to be a protective measure taken in looking at the greyish-blue cap, a stark contrast to the rubbery, flimsier material inherent in the original 9500. For instance, if you have an Apple computer or phone, you may not benefit at all from separate amplification. Video Discussion

I had read something a few years ago that claimed Classical actually needs more bass, and now I know why. Vocals and instruments still stand out, sounding very lively, intimate, and engaging, but in my opinion, these mids aren’t as good as the 9500. There are probably minor differences with earpads, but the headband design is a bit different, to my eyes at least. The 560S’s band looks closer to the ones on the 559 and adjacent gaming headsets (Game One, PC37/38X), with some sort of divot in the middle. The others don’t protrude as much, and are made out of some type of pleather.I’ve almost never had to take either off of my head for any reason at all, and quite literally can wear them for hours on end – even when I’m not listening to music! I think it works pretty well for Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, Indie Pop, etc. which is what you’ll primarily be using it for should you decide to take the plunge. Mid-range

I don’t listen to certain genres of music that would probably be a better test of mid delivery. The SHP9600 has a more relaxed sound signature when compared to my X3, so it is not best suited for faster and more modern metal. PS. One last thing I would like to note is that, although I think that the DT 990 Pro is still the stronger option for games (especially FPS ones), the SHP9600 with a ModMic does make make for a good contender, as I feel like its imaging is able to keep up with the requirements for competitive online games and its significantly higher efficiency makes it compatible amongst a wider array of set-ups and systems. In this article, we’ll take one last look at Philips’ attempt to improve on the 9500, and help you make a sound decision. Both headphones are incredibly comfy, but I feel more secure with a 9600 on my head if that makes sense. You may notice a bit of a dip in the presence regions, but it doesn’t feel scooped out when you’re listening to it. You don’t feel a strong emotional bond with her. You never find yourself having deep conversations about anything. But that isn’t her fault nor yours. It just is. Note: The 9600 actually weighs a bit more than the 9500 (I included this in the about section on the graphic in the video), but was surprised.

Still, you may opt for something like a FiiO K3, DragonFly Red, BTR3K, or Sabaj DA2 to get your feet wet as all pair very well with either headphone and can improve the sound to an extent. Then again I've never heard SHP9600 so this is all speculation. However I did own SHP9500 and I didn't like it for music (didn't try gaming). My "bar" was Denon D2000 and I thought it was better on everything. My friend with HD800 and HD650 also didn't like SHP9500 either (we each bought a pair at the same time).Whether or not you’ll actually need a DAC largely depends on how good or bad your phone is, and how good or bad the internal soundcard on your laptop/PC is.
