About this deal

When smelling The Sexton, you will detect hints of spice, fruits, marzipan and dark chocolate. On the palate, you’ll discover a very mild sweetness that slowly fades away, honeyed malt and oils coupled with a gentle wood finish. Throughout the 19th century, Irish whiskey reigned supreme over its Scottish rival, before falling out of favour. While Scotch may still wear the crown today, the pioneering efforts of Emerald Isle distilleries have led to a recent resurgence in popularity. There will be eight episodes in the first of the three installments in The Walking Dead, and The Sexton Single Malt will debut a rich, cinematic campaign spot to air during each of those episodes. Produced by creative agency Dead As We Know It and directed by Jake Scott of RSA Films, the spot portrays the brevity of human existence and encourages viewers to treat themselves to the things that bring them joy. An amusing juxtaposition to the dark, dismal realities of life depicted in The Walking Dead, The Sexton Single Malt reminds fans to relish the joys of living – one of those joys being the smooth, sherry cask-aged single malt crafted from Irish malted barley. To create The Sexton, Alex paid considerable attention to the maturation process, which has resulted in an ideal balance between spirit and oak. She was fascinated by the whiskey-making process’s maturation phase, and her detailed work has resulted in a perfect balance between spirit and oak.

The Sexton Irish Malt Whiskey Is Well Worth A Taste - Forbes The Sexton Irish Malt Whiskey Is Well Worth A Taste - Forbes

As for what’s inside, perhaps owing to some of its unconventional production, this is indeed a rather unusual expression of Irish whiskey, even for a single malt. The nose is immediately a bit weedy, quite green and vegetal, but undercut with notes of savory spices — think rosemary, not cloves — and a slightly nutty, winey character. Give it some time, and the green character will fade a bit. For the price, this is a good whiskey. It’s a bit young, but it’s smooth and flavorful and exceedingly well priced. Definitely a bottle to have around. A great mix of flavours that work sell together. A bit of sweetness with some honey flavour and some woody bottom end taste.

I can’t begin to describe the range of tastes and smells this has. It is gentle, warm and immensely complex with fruit, nuts, leather and goodness knows what else in there. The overall sense I get from this whiskey is that some high-quality sherry casks, though not first-fill, were used here. Besides aging a bit longer, the only way they could make The Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey better is if they didn’t skimp on it and bottled it at least at 46% and non-chill filtered. I know the tide is turning in Irish Whiskey to deliver their amazing malts in a purer form, but it’s a pity to see whiskeys that could be stellar diluted along the way.

Single grain Irish whiskey: Made by mixing malted barley and other grains and produced in a column still, single grain whiskeys are noticeably lighter in taste and often have pronounced floral notes. The Sexton is a new Irish single malt whiskey. It was conceived in Northern Ireland and is the brainchild of Master Blender Alex Thomas who is one of the few female whiskey blenders in the world today. The Sexton is a made in the North Coast of Ireland (at Bushmills, surely, as the two brands have the same ownership, the company Proximo), and is made from a 100% malted barley mash that is triple distilled in copper pots and aged for four years in first, second and third fill Oloroso sherry butts. The master blender is Alex Thomas, one of few females employed in the whiskey world that are masters of anything (i.e. distilling or blending). Nose: Full of fruit. Apricots, lemon (especially the zest) and prunes (a.k.a. the rebranded “dried plums). It closes with mild hard cheese and…is that printer ink? Yes. Yes, it is.Our winning Irish whiskey is a masterclass in sophistication. Matured in sherry and American oak barrels and finished in aged French chestnut casks (an experimental combination that's paid off), it has a sweet chestnut and rich, toasted oak flavour, with a hint of cinnamon toast and raisin sweetness on the finish. It’s incredibly smooth for a 46% ABV spirit and perfectly suited to a classic old fashioned. By the way, that bottle may look cool, but it splashes pretty badly when you pour from it. Use caution.

Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey : The Whisky Exchange

It may be summer, but if you’re looking for a whiskey that offers those classic Christmas flavours in liquid form, make it this. We’re talking citrus peel, dried fig, sweet sherry and a subtle smoked almond note that begs to be sipped fireside (though we’re not waiting that long, and neither should you). The Sexton Single Malt and The Walking Dead share a fanbase that values a life well-lived. Our motto is, “You have a single life. Drink a single malt” encapsulates that spirit,” said Lander Otegui, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Proximo Spirits. “As The Official Whiskey of The Walking Dead, we are excited to connect with the show’s monumental and loyal followers over the highly anticipated final season and offer them fan-focused experiences and limited-edition retail merchandise unique to our partnership.”Bought this for a very good friend as a thank you gift, he loved it, maybe too much. Therefore would buy again. That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles exclusive single malts, grains and bourbons from renowned distilleries, and this release (with a limited run of just 420 bottles) is no exception. The liquid inside is as distinctive as the bottle branding, delivering bags of vanilla butterscotch, citrus, dried fruit and cinnamon. Despite the higher ABV, it’s deliciously smooth; so much so, we’d swerve the ice entirely and savour as is. verifyErrors }}{{ message }}{{ /verifyErrors }}{{
