The Ricoh Theta X also has some impressive looking specs that make it a great option for 360 photos. The obvious difference is the boost in resolution up to 60MP, this makes the image shot with the Theta X very sharp and detailed, more-so than the Z1. For the THETA V and THETA Z1, this function is available only for videos recorded while “Stitching during shooting” is OFF.

please try to show 360pics in an envirement, that has a few really bright lights around (like on stage of a theater or concert). The images can sometimes appear slightly dull in terms of colours and they certainly don’t match up to images shot with the Theta Z1 using RAW mode. The Theta X can’t shoot RAW mode, however there’s no reason why this feature could not be added in the future. On the screen you can also control detailed shooting settings, cutting out the need for the smartphone app. Plus, with TFT colour and auto-brightness adjustment, the touchscreen panel brings your 360º creations to life in whole a new way.

The video certainly looking sharper and higher quality than previous Theta cameras. If you wanted to incorporate video VR tours into your work then this could certainly handle that. This is where the differences between the Z1 and X become most apparent. Ricoh has added several useful features to the design of the new X that users of the Z1 long complained about, so to their credit, Ricoh have listened to their audience. You’ll also find the Theta X has better stabilization than the Z1, allowing you to shoot 360 video while moving. When we first became aware of the possibility of this being the new camera from Ricoh you said it is not a replacement for the Theta Z, which has two one inch sensors. The firmware can be updated directly from the camera using Client Mode Wi-Fi access. Does the smaller sensor in this new camera mean that there is another camera yet to drop from Ricoh?The Ricoh Theta X is in many ways the best Ricoh Theta camera ever made. The addition of a large screen, removable battery, MicroSD Slot and faster wifi transfer are well overdue but represent a huge boost in user friendliness. The announcement indicates that the new camera runs Android OS and will allow third-party developers to release plug-ins for the camera. This is very exciting because the ability to control plug-ins from the OLED touchscreen is a huge advantage for plug-in applications. I would like to know how this bad “sunflares” and glare is behaving indoor, with some bright spots… Another useful design feature is the removable battery. Although the battery life itself is not stellar, the fact you can buy some spares and swap them out makes this less of an issue. The workflow to get the best quality images for the Z1 is much longer than the Theta X; you can get around 70% of the quality with the Theta X in under half the time.
