About this deal

You get a mount for your pedals, wheel, and even your handbrake or shifter too, and each of these is adjustable to suit your specific racing style. You also get a 14-way adjustable seat that you can position in just about any way you can imagine! I have 8Nm version and so far very satisfied. Coming from Logitech G923, DD is, if I quote Monty Python, something completely different 😀.

The Playseat Challenge is a great piece of equipment. It accomplishes what it set out to do and it does it well. However, if you’re in the market for a beginner sim racing rig, there are a few Playseat Challenge alternatives to be aware of. It should match your medium-term or long-term aims for your setup. Are you hoping that your rig will hold a Direct Drive or hydraulic pedals once you’re ready to make the step up? The Challenge is Playseat’s most approachable and practical racing seat for the average gamer. It’s the cheapest in the line-up too. The seat is secure, with the adjustable hubs rated to support up to 330 lbs (150 kg). This means you can adjust things like the angles and heights of each part without fear of the seat crumbling beneath you.If you dont have much budget left and you can only afford a budget rig, instead of buying brand new you may think of purchasing used instead which may get you a better quality rig for the same price range.

A good rig however will stop any flex you may experience when braking hard, will stop any wobble or movement when you have those direct drive forces being applied and it can help the overall immersion of your gameplay with proper seating and monitor/tv positioning. This rig comes with a wheel and pedal mount, and they’re designed to offer a decent amount of adjustability. However, the real star of the show is the comfortable racing seat you get with this rig. It’s not in the same low profile position as the Playseat Challenge, but this makes it more versatile for other forms of racing. The comfortable seat has a fair bit of padding, making it usable over long races without leaving you feeling fatigued. It even reclines to offer you more customization to suit your racing style and preferred seating position. Console/PC Compatibility PC, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Wii, XBox, Xbox 360, Xbox One Buying a rig is one of the most important parts to complete your set ups and most of the time people do overlook this piece of equipment, usually spending all of their money on a top of the line wheel base, rim and pedals.Comfort is a big thing to take into account when choosing your Playseat alternative. You don’t want to be uncomfortable during long gaming sessions in your racing seat as it ruins the whole experience and breaks your immersion. Not only that, but an uncomfortable chair can be detrimental to your health if it doesn’t support proper posture. There’s room on the Playseat Challenge for your pedals too, of course. They sit on foam-lined metal frame bars that curl up at the end, to avoid you pushing the pedal set off into the distance when you depress the brake. It’s designed to stop you getting sweaty, although I’d recommend the Alcantara version if you want a more luxurious feel. In either, you get racing seat-like cut-outs towards the top of the seat, which look the part and are cushioned. The main issue that can come from the Playseat Evolution is a product of its compact design. The central single-pylon wheelstand can make things difficult for users of a three-pedal solution, as they might feel like they are compromising on their brake usage if they are trying to navigate a metal pole that is lined up with their central brake pedal. As a result, this is most suitable for users who are running with just two pedals. PRO SIMRIG PSR3 All in all, this makes the Playseat Evolution massively accessible to all Sim Racers working on a budget. The most expensive rig in this list is the Pro Simrig PSR3. It’s far from entry-level but is probably the cheapest rig you can buy that’s made from aluminium profiles. This means that it’s really, really strong, has nearly zero movement when under heavy load and can handle the strongest of direct drive wheelbases. This is a good option for those that want a comfortable seat with adjustable mounting options. It's designed to be easy to set up, and it's a comfortable choice for longer sim racing sessions. I tried both the Thrustmaster T-LCM, which work great, and the C. These are not well-suited to the Challenge as the Fanatec’s rubber feet don’t properly line up with the slim foam cover of the pedal stand here, and the pedal set does not have a flat base. And if you plan on using a powerful load cell brake, you will likely want to get something more substantial either way.Let me report my experience, starting with a Playseat Challenge, then switching to a more solid Raceroom Rig and finally ending at a super-solid Simlab-like aluminium-profile rig with a CSL at first, a DD1 and now DD2:

On top of this, the Playseat Challenge is foldable when not in use, meaning that it won’t take up massive amounts of space if you’re looking to use your computer for other means, or just don’t want your rig to be a permanent fixture to your room. You can only adjust the angle of the wheel independently, not its distance from you or its height. It sits on a plastic ratcheting system that lets you alter the angle quite dynamically. This seems a bold choice on Playseat’s part when the simplicity of the frame design seems to be here to maximise structural integrity. It works fine, but does introduce some up-down flexion that otherwise would not be here. ActiFit fabric The seat cover of this version of the Challenge is ActiFit, described as a “vertical microfibre” pattern that promotes airflow. Pro: Will this be sufficient for DD 1/2 or would it just be suboptimal to pay large money for such base when combined with this seat?

There’s also (you guessed it) an optional velcro strap that can be used to more firmly cement the board to the metal runners. It’s very easy for one person to assemble this seat and it comes with many Velcro tabs and cable ties to assist you with cable management. There is no wobble at all in the entire construction of the solid and sturdy framework as a result of the premium materials used in its construction. People are using CSW 2.5 with Challenge without problems. They both, CSW and DD have similar max torque. Equipped with gearshift mount, allowing you to upgrade your race experience with the Logitech G Driving Force Shifter.
