About this deal

Connect the WR-R10 to your DSLR, either via the camera's accessory terminal, or with the WR-A10 adapter. Cameras with a 10-pin connector can be set up to be a 'master' camera, so when you press the shutter button on that camera body, the remote cameras paired to it will all fire simultaneously (up to around 50m away). In flash modes that support red-eye reduction, the red-eye reduction lamp will light for about one second before the shutter is released. In delayed remote mode, the self-timer lamp will light for two seconds, followed by the red-eye reduction lamp which lights for one second before the shutter is released. While the mirror is raised, photos can not be framed in the viewfinder and autofocus and metering will not be performed. Your Nikon camera may come with wi-fi built-in, or you could create wi-fi via Nikon's WU-1a or WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter and your smartphone or tablet. Alternatively, to send images from the camera to a computer or FTP server, you can use the Nikon WT-4, WT-5, WT-6 or WT-7 wireless transmitters, depending on camera compatibility – the new D5, for example, uses the WT-5 and WT-6 models, while the D500 uses the WT-7.

Remote control is cancelled automatically if no photograph is taken before the time selected for Custom Setting c5 ( Remote on duration (ML-L3), 0 Remote on Duration (ML-L3)), Off is selected for Remote control mode (ML-L3), a two-button reset is performed ( 0 Two-Button Reset: Restoring Default Settings), or shooting options are reset using Reset photo shooting menu ( 0 Reset Photo Shooting Menu). NB If the flash on your camera can pop up automatically, remember to disable this when you attach the WR-1. Unfortunately, that dongle port is useful for other things so to occupy it with a wireless remote dongle or a wired shutter trigger dongle is a waste. Pair the WR-R10 and WR-T10 by turning on the camera, placing the two remote devices next to each other and pressing their grey pairing buttons simultaneously, until the red and green LEDs on the WR-T10 receiver flash on and off in sequence. The devices are now connected up to a distance of about 20m, and you're ready to shoot. The button on the WR-R10 controller acts just like the shutter release on your Nikon camera; press it halfway for autofocus and all the way to take the picture. If Record movies is selected for Custom Setting g1 ( Custom control assignment) > Shutter-release button, the ML-L3 can not be used when the live view selector is rotated to 1. I though it was the battery, but after installing a new one, the remote control still doesn't work. I set the camera to the right mode (pressing the little button next to the BKT button and selecting the remote icon with the main dial).

This convenient remote is all about long exposure and time lapse shooting. You can shoot a sequence up to 100 hours long, split down to 1-second increments, and there’s a secondary timer that’ll repeat the first sequence, also with controllable frequency. Alternatively, the Captur can be used as a straightforward remote release, with the 2.4GHz wireless connection giving a range up to 100m, while Digital Channel Matching guards against unwanted signal interference. The Wireless Remote Controller kit includes the WR-R10 transceiver (controller) which is attached to the DSLR and receives signals from the WR-T10 transmitter. Alternatively, you could use multiple WR-1 remote controllers, which are both transmitter and transceiver in one. Because these systems use radio frequencies instead of infrared, you aren't limited to line-of-sight operation. Their ranges are also much greater than infrared options – around 20m for the WR-T10 to the WR-R10, 50m for a transmitting WR-R10 to a transceiving WR-R10, and a whopping 120m for WR-1 to WR-1. The optional ML-L3 remote control ( 0 Other Accessories) can be used to reduce camera shake or for self-portraits. Go to your smart device's wi-fi settings and select the camera's wi-fi network or SSID in the list of networks displayed. (With Android smartphones, once you initially make this network connection, your device will automatically connect when you enable the camera's wi-fi. With Apple devices, you'll have to perform this step each time you want to use the wireless feature of your Nikon camera with your smart device.)

Wi-fi with Nikon WU-1a & WU-2a wireless mobile adapters

I just did that, but I saw nothing. I guess I'll just take them to BH Photo and test a different remote/camera combination there. I hope it's the remore (as it seems from your suggested test). Nikon's WT wireless transmitters enable fast transmission of images – either automatically or by manual selection – direct from your camera to an FTP server or computer, and they also allow you to import IPTC photo metadata into the camera's memory before shooting, so the data is automatically attached to images as they're shot. This saves critical time for editors as well as photographers. They also enable a number of other useful functions, including camera operation from a computer via Camera Control Pro 2, and simultaneous release of multiple remote cameras from one master camera, depending on which WT transmitter you use. To set up the WT-5 wireless transmitter for image transfer, in the set-up menu, select network, then highlight choose hardware and navigate to the hardware list. Now, placing the units close together, highlight execute on both menus and press OK. The pairing complete message will be in the display and the LED will flash red and green alternately to let you know the units are paired.

For photographers using the D4 series, D810/A, D750, D7200 or D7100 cameras, the UT-1 communication unit will provide an ethernet connection going from the camera to a computer or FTP server. In PC mode, you can even shoot from the laptop, providing it's running Camera Control Pro 2 software. For those same cameras, the UT-1 used with the WT-5A will also enable high-speed image transfer over wireless LAN to a computer or FTP server. The WR-1 wireless remote controller can help you get the best shots, video and time-lapse sequences using one or multiple cameras, when you can't physically be where you want to be – whether that's because you're shooting wildlife in the field or you're in a situation where you aren't allowed to get too close, such as a press conference or sporting event, or even the school play. How can I determine who's at fault here (camera, remote or the usual suspect - me) ? BTW, the remote won't emit any visible light when pressed (what I mean is the little light bulb won't lit - I'm not expecting to see the actual beam); is it supposed to show something? For one thing, I have Foolography Unleashed, which uses a bluetooth dongle to trigger the shutter as well as send GPS data and also intervalometer functions. Can the ML-L3 infrared remote be used with the Zs? I can't find an option for it. If not, which wireless triggers are compatible?

Pairing two WR-1 units

On your smartphone or tablet, open the wi-fi settings and select the Nikon camera's network from the list of networks available. It will begin with Nikon, followed by a string of letters and numbers. (With Android smartphones, once you initially make this network connection, your device will automatically connect when you enable the camera's wi-fi in future. For Apple devices, you'll need to perform this step each time you want to use your camera's wireless feature with your smartphone.) The ML-L3 has one simple button for shutter release. It does not have the capability to press it half way down to autofocus. Instead, it autofocuses just before it fires the shot. It is extremely handy for group shots, or times when you do not want to wait for the timer. Most of Nikon’s DSLR provide the ability to fire it directly or with a short 2 second pause / timer feature.
