About this deal

All the misogynistic horrors, sexual harassment in the workplace and tropes of the 1970s are there amid a rather bizarre plot of not just dark rooms but dark "family secrets" and dark discoveries. If I was to be completely objective, I would say that this was deeply flawed. What new DI shares details of a delicate case with family and friends? However I wallowed in the retro on every level and enjoyed my wallow as much as Jane Tennison enjoys a bath.

Jane herself comes off as quite dislikable, the whole storyline of her doing a big renovation of her house suddenly out of nowhere became quite boring - the trip to Australia was quite simply ludicrous and on the whole, the whole story was meh. The decomposed body of a young girl who has been brutally murdered and left in a an old air raid shelter in the garden of the Lanark’s now derelict house. Jane Tennison is leading a murder investigation but first she must identify the victim but then another body is found, hidden in the walls of the shelter. When the book starts, body number seven is found, same method, but the killer has killed a sweet young student. Anna finds a piece of information that links the killings to a much loved (not to mention well known) actor.Helena Lanark is an elderly woman, living in a luxurious care home. The heiress of an immense family fortune, she keeps the secret to the horror which once occurred within the Lanark family house. I always devour books by Lynda La Plante and 'Dark Rooms' was no exception. As well as the core investigation per novel, this series is as much about Jane's life and career. Lynda has teased both ninth and tenth books, which may bring the series full circle as we approach 'Prime Suspect'. I love this series and always enjoy the evolution of Jane's character - it was very exciting to see her once again take a step forward in career with her promotion. I cannot wait to see what is next in store for DI Tennison. I’m thinking of teaching an Osher adult learning course on Lynda La Plante. Any observations about her work most appreciated. Reply Read all your books! Fantastic! Definitely my favourite author by far. Just finished Unholy Murder which was brilliant. Can’t wait to start Judas Horse now. Reply I have mixed thoughts on this book. I didn’t dislike it but I definitely didn’t enjoy it. The suspect plot line felt so all over the place and the romance subplot was questionable at best. Personally, i felt there was a lot of useless information about the house renovation, I get having sub plots but man, that was boring.

What I liked was a different style of telling the story, I'm a bit tired of all the same contemporary unreliable narrators in every mystery novel these days, so, a solid person was so refreshing. This Morning viewers were left divided by the talent on the show earlier this morning, despite it impressing presenters. Rochelle Humes and Andi Peters returned to the ITV programme today [August 17] to speak with best-selling author Lynda La Plante about her brand new book, Dark Rooms . Our servers are getting hit pretty hard right now. To continue shopping, enter the characters as they are shown She must decide if she will risk her life to bring the killer to justice simply to claim the reward, or if she should leave the task to someone more experience, more willing, and more trusting than she will ever be able to trust herself after her difficult and harrowing past. For those readers looking to get into novels by Lynda La Plante, this section will help with that. It will go over the novels “Above Suspicion”, “The Red Dahlia”, and “Clean Cut”. I have lived in China for the past 2O years,so getting English novels is not easy, although found odd ones on the internet here. So,my sister posts some to me,probably buys in Waterstones. Last year she sent a couple of your books, this year a couple more, including WIDOWS REVENGE,but this is the second one in the series,so cannot read it yet I am now hooked on them, have you any idea where they are available here. I am a 77 year old avid reader with a Chinese wife.I am preparing a new list to send to her, but if you have any idea where they may be available in China, would be great. Dark Rooms - the new Tennison novel - Lynda La Plante CBE

Clean Cut: This is the third novel in the “Anna Travis” series and was released in the year 2007. James Langton is hunting some illegal immigrants who killed a young prostitute; he is ruthless in his search for them. One of the immigrants almost kills him, and Anna bears most of the frustrations he has and helps get his wounds healing. All the while, she puts her own career, not to mention life, on hold for him. As the investigation and search for answers intensifies, Jane travels to Australia. There she discovers the dark secret that the Lanark family has kept hidden for decades. A secret that not only threatens to bring down a family dynasty, but also places Jane Tennison in mortal danger . . . All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate.

Her first book went over extremely well, and other famous novels came to follow. One of her best known stories is The Talisman, published in 1987, closely followed by Bella Mafia in 1990. Soon afterward, she began work on Prime Suspect, which starred Helen Mirren. This opened the door for La Plante to win an Edgar-Award from the Mystery-Writers of America for her impressive work on the show. I think Lynda la Plante is much better on tv than in print! What a poorly written book; I’ve never thought the word bland would describe a novel but somehow it does for this effort.

I love every single one of the book she has written. The one I have enjoyed the most is the Anna Travis serious. Will there be anymore or that is it. Would love to see Anna’s progress in the police force and her relationship with the DCI. Reply

Absolutely love every Lynda la Plante novel I’ve read. Just finished Unholy Murder, so good and cleverly written. Can’t wait to start Judas Horse! Reply Speaking of, since when is it ok to discuss the minutiae of your case with non police, Jane? Extremely unprofessional, and for an obnoxious, overbearing, pompous character like our “heroine”, I would have expected professionalism. How is a main character so awful?? Genuine question because I as the reader should surely be on her side? But she is impatient, irritable, downright rude a lot of the time, pompous, judgemental, and snobby. I don’t think I’ve ever read a character I disliked as much. But then he gets interrupted by Rochelle who insists, "He sings, I don't think we can call it howl. He's an operatic singer."
