About this deal

Isabella Barclay - Head of IT. Professional bitch. Short, spiteful and redheaded. Gossip says she harbours an unrequited passion for Farrell. Yes, maybe not for everyone, but certainly fans of scifi/thrillers with a serious comedic spin. Taylor writes in an almost stream of concious manner, and Zara Ramm brings authenticity and wonderful humour to the narration. BOOM! New information, new revelations and IT ALL MAKES SENSE, you were just not seeing it right away. Blind-sided. Again. Flabberghasted. Again.

And yet an historian who thus publicly declared his allegiance to the dogma that History is just ‘one damned thing after another’ had, in calling his book A History of Europe, committed himself, almost in the same breath, to a predetermined pattern in which the history of one indistinguishable ‘continent’ was equated with the whole history of Mankind. . .Leon. honestly, the Leon in this dramatisation is so terribly realised that he may as well not even be there! very badly done! After the Thaw inquiry, the Sutton investigation. As the pessimistic philosopher puts it: “ Life is just one damn thing after another.”

So what's the problem? The writing. If I had to describe it in one word (and this is just what I refer to it in my head; please don't take me too seriously), it would be British. Namely, dry, wry and matter-of-fact. If ever there was emotion involved in the plot, you wouldn't know it from Jodi Taylor's tone all throughout her book. Sometimes, this wordy style really works to the advantage of the storyteller and gives humor and personality to every scene: my best example for a successful pull-off of "British" style writing would be Terry Pratchett. Unfortunately, Jodi Taylor's attempt didn't sit as well with me and because of that, my enjoyment of Just One Damned Thing After Another was seriously dampened.

The lead time for publishing a book has traditionally been lengthy; hence, Lilian Bell may have written her novel before 1909. Bell stated within the text that the adage was already being posted on walls.
