About this deal

Updates have made the U7QF better, but not completely absolved it of motion handling issues. It lags behind other manufacturers in this regard. You don’t have to hit even 50 per cent of its maximum volume before it’s pumping out sound levels that regular-sized living rooms and normal hearing capabilities will struggle to comfortably tolerate. We are testing a 65-inch Hisense U7K which has been provided to us for review by Hisense UK. It was a brand-new unopened example. The picture quality should be similar for the other screen sizes available in the range. We test every television we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product.

A dedicated subwoofer on the TV’s rear hits deeper than most TV sound systems too, providing a solid foundation for the potent midrange, while trebles sound clear without becoming too prominent. VIDAA covers the whole screen, which is always a bad idea, but it’s quite responsive and doesn’t take too long to start making sensible recommendations. So in 2023 we also get a contrast-rich VA type of Mini LED panel and, for the 65-inch model at least, what we count to be 384 separately controlled light dimming zones. That’s not a world-beating zone count by any means, but it is more than might reasonably have been expected for such a relatively affordable Mini LED TV.It does equally well with skin tones and textures, draws edges with a steady hand, and can keep even very tight and/or complex patterns solidly defined. Depth of field is also pretty good. And this brings us to the contrast performance of the Hisense U7K and in HDR picture modes we measured on/off contrast at 5249:1 with local dimming set to high and 4102:1 with it set to off. This is good for such a TV at this level of the market, but the dynamic range is not huge and the tone mapping employed does clip detail in the brightest reaches of the image.

Hisense 65U7KQTUK - Richer Sounds

The 65U7KQTUK does good work controlling on-screen movement, too. It’s really robust and authoritative, meaning even the most testing and/or unpredictable motion stays solid and believable. Even the dreaded televised sport stays coherent and stable – and there’s no sterner test than that.

Hisense U7K Measurements and Testing

Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 1st November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) Just because we’ve all got used to Hisense products being very aggressively priced relative to a) their specification and b) their most obvious rivals, that doesn’t make it any less notable. The performance is decent and best suited for broadcast as it serves up clear dialogue quality. It’s also offers decent panning across the soundstage, as well as offering some specificity in terms of where sounds emanate from. The U7K instantly reveals that Hisense has learned the hard lessons from its 2022 UK Mini LED debut, delivering a picture that substantially outperforms last year’s U8H – despite the U7K sitting a rung lower in 2023’s range. Step down from Full HD stuff, though, and the Hisense throws the towel in somewhat. A big screen like this displaying some 720p content or less is always going to struggle, and the 65U7KQTUK lets picture-noise intrude, lets detail go astray and gives up entirely where testing on-screen motion is concerned.
