About this deal

If you’re looking for something cheaper to start out with, the f/2 WR is the better lens. Its lower price and weather resistance makes it a great starting lens for anyone getting into the field.

However, for owners of the Fujifilm X-Pro1, X-T/X-T3/X-T4, the F/1.4 lens is the greater investment, due to its better range and perfect shots. Thanks to its compact size, a fast aperture of f/1.4 and a versatile focal length, the Fuji 35mm f/1.4 undoubtedly became the most popular of the three lenses. I have had the pleasure of shooting with this lens a number of times by now. First, I used it for a few months at launch, then when I re-evaluated the Fuji X Pro1 after about a year and lastly after I made the decision to make Fuji X my mirrorless system of choice. The reality is, both of these lenses will give you stunning, sharp photos with great bokeh. The real question is whether you are looking for something that is also a wide angle lens or not, and your budget. The 23mm f1.4 is definitely in the upper price range when it comes to Fuji lenses.

Where to buy Fuji lenses

Both lenses produce a similar bokeh in terms of quality, they both swirl slightly, but the 35mm f1.4 does produce slightly creamier results with better separation and falloff. The 35mm f1.4 also has a slightly more visible field curvature so you see more of that creamy bokeh in the center and it falls offs off towards the edges.

With my honeymoon coming up in April 2020 (damn you coronavirus), I wanted to give the focal length another chance especially with returning to Melbourne where I hadn’t shot with a 35mm lens at all. I decided to give it another chance after seeing a good deal for a used Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 and I am so glad I took the risk.Plus, Fujifilm is known for its stunning prime lenses, so every Fuji photographer should have at least one in their photography kit. In my humble opinion and after using the Fuji 35mm f/1.4 for over 3 years now. It’s the far superior lens of the two.

Digital strategist, writer, and image maker based in Manhattan working with clients in the tech and entertainment industry. The great thing about this combination is that you can’t really go wrong. My personal kit contains the Fuji 35mm 1.4 + Fuji 23mm f2 (while I try or rent a lot of lenses, I only buy ones I see myself traveling with regularly).

Are on a mid-level budget, and you want excellent autofocus performance, don’t need a ton of bokeh, and you want something wide-angle and versatile? Get the 23mm f2. Here’s a comparison between those two. 23mm f2 vs 35mm f2: Which of Fuji’s weather resistant primes is better? Sharpness is poor even at the center of the image frame when shooting at apertures wider than f/2.8, and edge-sharpness doesn’t get into its stride until f/5.6. Sharpness across the whole frame is best at f/5.6 and f/8. But for my taste, the 1.4 wins out. It has this sort of dreamy character (more about that in the review further down), and in the arena of sharpness, I think the 1.4 takes the cake. But if weather sealing is a big priority for you, you might disagree. Both lenses are about the same size, but the 35mm f1.4 is 17g heavier or about .6 ounces. This pretty much means they are about the same weight.

its “glass-molded aspheric lens at the 5th element, which minimizes spherical aberration” and (that’s what my gut feeling is telling me) is responsible for this unique image character I was writing above EDUCATION: Chris graduated Magna Cum Laude from Adelphi University with a degree in Communications in Journalism in 2009. Since then, he's learned and adapted to various things in the fields of social media, SEO, app development, e-commerce development, HTML, etc. Basically, something is either wrong with your 35 f/1.4 or you need to find a better focusing point. Agree with you there, the 35mm f1.4 was one of my first lenses I bought with my Fujifilm camera, no regrets! Great shots you got there with the lens! The XF 35mm F2 is weather sealed and its focusing is all done internally. This is great if you are pairing the 35mm F2 with a weather sealed Fujifilm body like the X-Pro2, X-T2, or X-H1 as this will ensure that your kit is nice and safe should you encounter some less than ideal weather. Since its focusing is internal, this also means that the lens always stays the same length and is very compact – its an excellent companion to any Fujifilm camera. These samples have not been color treated and are mostly straight out of camera. The cameras had matching settings except shutter so exposures often came in slightly different so I nudged the exposure in post a little to match so they should give a good representation of contrast and saturation when wide open as well. I absolutely love the 1.4 as you can tell from this post. It still hasn’t come off one of my X-T2s and won’t for the foreseeable!
