About this deal

The outsole crash pad works independently to enable smooth landings and transitions for rearfoot strikers. For me, the Rebel v2 functions best as a daily trainer for middle distances at easy/steady paces between 4.30 and 5.30 per kilometre. It has a super soft, smooth ride with good energy return that makes it fun to run in. If not for its potential durability concerns, the Rebel V2 would have been an excellent everyday trainer. The midfoot and rearfoot are narrow compared to the forefoot. The outsole rubber placement also makes the shoe more suited to forefoot striking.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 Multiple Tester Review

Jacob: Fuel Cell is the name of the game here and I’m a big fan—it’s a single-slab of soft, flexible, bouncy, and energetic foam. This deployment of FuelCell minds me of the Propel v1 in it’s dramatically soft and flexible feel. There is a balanced level of cushion and foam in the Rebel v2 where it’s not tippy at the heel or sink-in-forever feeling like the TC so there is more stability and direct connection with the ground on toe-off. The forefoot has some firmness. However, it is well-cushioned and not harsh. Buy v2 before NB realized they mispriced this and ups the cost for v3! Hologram ads to its sexiness They already had the Beacon and the Zante (now called the Tempo) but both of those trainers were built on the Fresh Foam template. The Rebel is a lightweight trainer that uses FuelCell as its midsole foam.

Even though it has lost some of its original DNA, I’m still happy about the direction that New Balance has taken with it because I make more use of it as a daily trainer than a speedwork trainer- it doesn’t have the snappy punch that I like in a speed trainer.

All in all, the shoe doesn’t suffer much from this fact. Overall it becomes a less aggressive shoe as a result, more suited to training than racing. Just as intended. With 30 mm of soft FuelCell foam underfoot, the Rebel v2 offers runners ample protection from the impact of the roads. As a lightweight trainer, this shoe is not necessarily the best long-distance companion, but our testers are confident that runners will comfortably enjoy distances around the half-marathon mark. The new NDURANCE outsole also gives the Rebel v2 improved traction that should instill a lot of confidence while out on the roads.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 First Impressions

The outsole isn’t much to look at. The rubber slabs are thin and soft, thus allowing them to bend whenever the midsole does. New Balance continues to deliver with an update to their lightweight performance trainer the Rebel. The FuelCell Rebel v2 features the highly cushioned and responsive FuelCell midsole with an update to the upper. It's is a highly versatile shoe that can dabble in faster efforts, daily efforts, and easy days. The shoe is a Swiss army knife that has gained a lot of traction in the shoe world, but is it worth the hype? Find out below. The upper clearly is airy and far less dense than the TC or RC. As a heel striker at slower paces I feared the soft soft foam would be overly soft, out of control, or bottom out so I initially didn’t request a sample but hearing early comments from the team had to try them! I was not disappointed! If you thought that New Balance was only going to make minor changes to the second iteration of the Rebel, you’ll be in for a surprise. The Rebel v2 has been revamped with a brand new upper, midsole and outsole. The habanero colorway of the Rebel v2. A bright orange rear upper with white forefoot diagonally. A blue outlined N logo over the midfoot.

Jamie : The thin engineered mesh upper delivers a lightweight and super breathable design. The mesh is very flexible with the stitching around the midfoot providing a bit of added support. Unlike standard EVA foam or even rubber-blend materials like the Nike React, the New Balance Fuelcell foam did not stiffen in the cold and retained its cushioned bounciness. Imma keep going, so T Swizz, take a seat. The upper fits so well that when you drop the hammer in a workout, it seamlessly moves with you in total comfort. I wasn’t a fan of the odd-shaped tongue at first, but by the time I am writing this, I have come to appreciate the way it fits into the form. The heel counter is gentle on the heel/Achilles while it holds the rear of your foot securely in. What we’re about to say next may come as a surprise. But when we try to compare the Rebel V2’s ride character with other shoes, the Rebel V1 isn’t the first shoe that comes to mind. The Rebel v2 follows the trend of lightweight, tempo trainers becoming softer and more suited to slower, longer runs. The Beacon V3, SL20.2 and EvoRide 2 have all undergone the same treatment. With the Rebel v2, the company is looking to fine tune the recipe from the original by applying what they’ve learned since. The changes are plenty, and the upgrade is nothing short of a success. What’s New With the Rebel v2? When I saw videos of the Rebel v3 months ago, the thing that I was most excited about was the extra rubber on the outsole. For me, durability was the Rebel v2’s biggest weakness. Michael: “Bouncy” is indeed the most apt word here. The midsole is so soft and so flexible that I genuinely thought they’d feel overly squishy on the run - I mean, these are softer than the first-generation Pegasus Turbo. But no - while the midsole is readily compressible, it’s springy enough to avoid a full collapse, and instead keep propelling you up and into your stride.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 Shoes Make Running Fun These New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 Shoes Make Running Fun

Get this shoe if you seek a super soft, lively ride, and want just one pair of shoes to go at almost all paces. It can be a good choice for race day too. Perfect for runners who prefer to train on short and middle distances. New Balance characterizes Fuel Cell as follows: " The Fuel Cell family is our line of performance, speed and rebound driven shoes but contrary to popular belief is not a midsole compound thus the vastly different rides of different shoes within the family."The outsole is improved too. The new strategically placed NDURANCE rubber provides similar – if not better – traction with more flex for a smoother transition. Just like the Rebel v2, going true to size will be a really snug fit so I suggest going up a half size. This is one of the rare shoes I’ve tested which I needed to size up. Going up a half size will provide a spacious forefoot and toe box for long training runs. I took the Rebel v2 on a 40 kilometre run on two occasions and its performance was excellent. It provided plenty of long-distance comfort and my legs felt great by the end of the runs. You could easily run a full marathon in the Rebel v2. Adam: The Rebel V2 is an extremely light and comfortable shoe which also features great energy return.
