About this deal

My wife had Cumberland sausage and mash with deep red brown rich onion gravy. I sampled that too, it was equally nice. For dessert we had toffee apple brioche, a kind of apple based bread and butter pudding with cream this was exceptionally good, all rounded off with fresh coffee. Mid-August. Deep red flush over pale base, flesh white, juicy, with a melting flavour. At its best, one of the best flavoured early apples, with a flavour that cannot be experienced inany commercially available apple.Fruit is medium/large. Susceptible to canker, however. You must come and dig up a bush this winter,” she would say, a twinkle in her eye at the thought of gooseberry-related delights that awaited me as a future connoisseur. Gooseberry jam, crumbles, custard, puddings, smoothies. Delicious.

Mid-August. Traditionally, the first apple available at the start of the season. Small/medium fruit, attractive red stripes over green/yellow base. Flavour is distinct, pleasant but not always very sweet. Anarkali Indian restaurant Haslingden is a hidden gem, and is one of Lancashire’s premier Indian restaurants which is loved by Indian food lovers from far and wide. These very typical New Zealand fruit were inherited from our British settler past and they thrive on the West Coast, especially if you have the canny, green-fingered talents of a retiree and treat them with the attention they crave. You can bonsai them in individual pots – large if possible to retain water and well mulched for summer – so they are mobile and you gain better positions in the sun for ripening fruit. If well-fed, those green bullets do indeed swell and ripen to red, orange, or even purple berries, bursting with tart (but not sour), ripe goodness in summer. Speak to them, tell them stories, sing to them, etc. A gramophone will suffice. About Wadworth: Wadworth is an independent family brewer and regional pub operator, very proud of its West Country roots. Founded by Henry A Wadworth, the business passed to his founding partner John Smith Bartholomew and is now in the fourth-generation of ownership by the Bartholomew family. Wadworth has created original beers at its brewery in Devizes, Wiltshire since 1875 and is one of the few remaining family brewers to deliver to the local area using shire horses. It also has a 200-strong pub estate and works hard with its business partners and managers to ensure that the pubs offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, quality food and drink and excellent accommodation to make their customers’ days. Mid September to late October.Medium-large round, pale yellow fruit with pleasant aroma.Flesh is sharp/sweet, and holds shape well in cooking. Once a popular apple in the Tweedside orchards of Scotland.

The Future Farmer Programme is being delivered by Harper Adams university’s School of Sustainable Food and Farming and is being sponsored by Tesco, supporting those in the industry aged under 40 to develop their skills in sustainable agriculture. One of the school’s core purposes is to develop new talent in the agri-food sector and develop knowledge of sustainable food supply. That knowledge sharing will be critical, and we hope that this group of learners will go on to continue disseminating what they gain here even further through the industry.” Once grown widely inScotland and Northern England.Overall, probably the best choice for a Cumbrian orsimilarly 'challenging' location - produces reliable crops of healthy fruit, very little affected by scab. In most seasons a very acceptable eating apples, as well as being useful in the kitchen. Recommended.

Medium to large apple, lemon coloured skin and white juicy flesh. Flavour is slightly tart and refreshing, flesh is crisp.Vigorous, healthy tree, but strongly biennial in habit (at least in our experience). May also be used as a cooking apple. Mid-late September. Crimson over green base. Smaller fruit, with flattened shape and distinct eye. Flesh is crisp, white with brisk flavour.Sweetens with keeping. A relaible cropper, and healthy. Propogated in Ayrshire by John Butterworth from an old tree nearby. Now since Christmas day i believe business hasnt been good and now they are closing down! Others walked out on the day aswell. Shouting and swearing was heard coming from the kitchen and the waiting on staff were left in tears. No wonder. If they ever read this i hope they feel bad for spoiling our day and will admit to themselves that they let us all down that day.

Wadworth’s brewery team brew a core range of beers and a minimum of eight seasonal beers a year. Farmer’s Glory has stood the test of time and remains the only one to be brewed every August in readiness for the harvest. It will be available in pubs as cask ale throughout September. Thanks to Rossendale Online and the Farmers Glory for the prize of lunch for two in the recent competition. We went there in December; Id recommend giving the place a try if you havent been already.

Well-known commercial apple, bred in Australia. Surprisingly perhaps, we have found it crops satisfactorily in our difficult climate. Flavour of northern-grown apples is quite acidic, but refreshing! Skin is blushed red over the familiar green. Tree is not vigorous, and quite compact. Anotherproduct of Marcus Tydeman's nursery - Worcester bred with McIntosh. We have had slightly irregular crops, but good quality and Deliciousfruit. Wadworth the independent family brewer based in Devizes, Wiltshire has given its popular seasonal ale, Farmer’s Glory a whole new look. First created in 1984 to help farmers to celebrate their bounteous harvests, the beer has been growing in popularity ever since.

Early-late September. Red-flushed, conical apple, medium sized fruit. Flesh is white, chewy with a hint of strawberry. At its best, one of the best flavoured apples we grow. A choice variety, but scab can be a problem. This apple originates in Scotland, but does not quite match the official description! May be mis-named. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Reprint. Light wear to boards. Content is clean and bright. Complete DJ with some edge wear and minor handling marks to rear. October to January.Medium to small apple, crimson flushed over green base.Flesh is white, juicy and refreshing. Healthy and reliable, and agood keeper, in our experience. Small fruit. Recommended. Flesh is white, crisp, juicy.Flesh can be tinted pink when fully ripe (like the others on this list, it will ripen in the fruit bowl). Like currants, they thrive in high latitudes and cold arctic climates – I know they grow very well in northern Scotland – which would suggest they will do better the further south you go in New Zealand .
