Stir until the gelatin is dissolved. In the early twentieth century, blancmange gained an unfair reputation as stodgy nursery food, pushing it down the social scale. Before that, however, and in various guises, it was regarded as a light and easily digestible entremets. Dinners at Downton frequently include some form of molded cream, and this version, which is set with cornstarch rather than gelatin, is a very easy way to replicate one. Combine the veal, butter, pistachios, almonds, apple, lemon zest, coriander, allspice, salt, pepper, and eggs in a bowl and mix well. Whether you’re throwing a full-scale Downton dinner party or just want to see if you’d ever have been able to give Mrs Patmore a run for her money, we’ve borrowed a handful of recipes that are still just as delicious today, and the stories that brought them to life. One solution was to bone them and stuff the gap with a rich forcemeat (that’s a mixture of ground, lean meat mixed with fat by grinding, sieving, or puréeing the ingredients), which meant the meat could then be easily sliced and served with the obligatory sauce. One big 'maybe' in the staff column is Robert James-Collier as Thomas Barrow. At the end of A New Era, Barrow accepts an offer from Dominic West's Guy Dexter to join him in America — which means we're likely not see West again, either. Turbot is one of the most prized fish in French cuisine, and the recipe for Turbot with Hollandaise would make a suitably extravagant centerpiece for a Downton-themed dinner – but if you don’t (yet) own a turbotière, you may need to improvise your cooking arrangements to accommodate the fish’s unusual shape. There were three years between the first two movies, though some of the delay was due to the COVID pandemic impacting filming. If a third movie is confirmed, we can better speculate when it might be released once production gets going.
