This laptop’s battery life is impressive. On a battery life test, the Dell G3 15 3579 lasted 6 hours 40 minutes. Scroll on for my first impressions of the Dell G3 15 (2019), plus the full list of specifications that have been confirmed so far. The strength of the processor is revealing in real-world usage. We encoded a 4K video in Handbrake on the Dell G3 in just three minutes and thirty seconds. That’s only a handful of seconds behind the Core i7-8750H in the Razer Blade or Digital Storm Equinox, while also a whole minute and half faster than U-series in more conventional ultrabooks like the Razer Blade Stealth. Only some recent notebooks like the XPS 15 and the ThinkPad X1 Extreme are significantly faster. We see a respectable, if unremarkable, battery-life result here. The Nitro 5 is a big outlier, while the rest are clustered in the six-to-seven-hour range. Six hours of battery life in the described scenario is good for a gaming laptop, though in case you’re unaware, you won’t be able to play games for that long off the charger. Gaming drains battery much faster than general use (word processing, web browsing, and even watching videos like our test), so you’d only be able to play for a couple hours off the charger (and with diminished performance). Nonetheless, I am happy to rate the laptop an eight in this review for its capability to multitask considerably well. Dell G3 15 3579 Storage Options & Performance Review This computer WAS great, but the speakers stopped working - no sound at all. The in-game CC does not "hear" it either. Now almost at 2 year old it does not start up.The same applies to the touchpad. It does an okay job. I found it a little unresponsive at times, which can be a matter of life and death in a FPS. But I’d always recommend that any trigger-happy gamer buy a mouse instead of using any laptop touchpad.

It’s not the most efficient processor in the world, but it’s a huge improvement over the 7th-gen chip used in the G3’s predecessor. With a greatly increased multi-core score in our Geekbench tests, the G3 can better handle heavily multi-thread software, including games that are programmed with quad-core chips in mind. on Dell internal analysis using publicly available specs in August 2023 comparing maximum effective capacity for PowerStore 1200 and FlashArray //X20. Assumes average 4:1 data reduction for PowerStore, 5:1 for Pure Storage. Actual results vary. Next up is another synthetic test or gaming simulation, this time from Unigine Corp. Like 3DMark, the Superposition test renders and pans through a detailed 3D scene and measures how the system copes. In this case, it's rendered in the eponymous Unigine engine, offering a different 3D workload for a second opinion on each laptop's graphical prowess.According to the YouTuber who made it, this 3D-printed mouse is one of the best gaming mice in the world -- but boy, does it look odd. OptimumTech designed the Zeromouse from the ground up by modding a Razer mouse with a 3D-printed shell that made it a lot more lightweight, and reportedly, more ergonomic. Synthetic tests are helpful for measuring general 3D aptitude, but it's hard to beat full retail video games for judging gaming performance. Far Cry 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are both modern, high-fidelity titles with built-in benchmarks that illustrate how a system handles real-world gameplay at various settings. We run them at 1080p resolution at the games' medium and best image-quality presets (Normal and Ultra for Far Cry 5 under DirectX 11, Medium and Very High for Rise of the Tomb Raider under DirectX 12). Cinebench is often a good predictor of our Handbrake video editing trial, another tough, threaded workout that's highly CPU-dependent and scales well with cores and threads. In it, we put a stopwatch on test systems as they transcode a standard 12-minute clip of 4K video (the open-source Blender demo movie Tears of Steel) to a 1080p MP4 file. It's a timed test, and lower results are better. measures relative graphics muscle by rendering sequences of highly detailed, gaming-style 3D graphics that emphasize particles and lighting. We run two different 3DMark subtests, Sky Diver and Fire Strike, which are suited to different types of systems. Both are DirectX 11 benchmarks, but Sky Diver is more suited to midrange PCs with integrated graphics, while Fire Strike is more demanding and lets high-end and gaming PCs strut their stuff. The results are proprietary scores. For a lot of people, though, these options can get expensive. So, if you’re looking for a laptop that isn’t so expensive, where do you go? Well, budget options like the Dell G3 gaming laptop can deliver competent gaming performance at budget prices – just don’t expect too many bells and whistles.
