About this deal

Truscott, Alan; Truscott, Dorothy (2002). The New York Times Bridge Book: An Acetodal History of the Development, Personalities and Strategies of the World's Most Popular Card Game. New York: St. Martin's Press. pp. 263. ISBN 0-312-29090-X. In this book Jeff Lucas tells the story of each of the 45 bridges which span the main waterways of Bristol, between Avonmouth and St Anne’s, and which can be crossed on foot.

Along with the photos of each bridge and its surroundings is a short description and history of the bridge. There is also a small map of Paris for each bridge showing exactly where it is. This would be a great resource when traveling to Paris, although I think I’d make copies to bring since it is a heavy book. Illustrated with 120 colour photographs, this book will open up new ways of looking at these often-beautiful structures that we usually take for granted. Rubens, Jeff (1971). The Secrets of Winning Bridge (2nded.). New York: Grosset & Dunlap. ISBN 0-448-01746-6 (hardcover), ISBN 0-448-02094-7 (softcover) The problem has been solved for Bristol’s 45 bridges by Thilo Gross, a young mathematician who worked at Bristol University. Thilo contributes a chapter about the bridge problem, its importance to mathematics and the modern world, and how he solved it for Bristol. I also enjoyed the “Passerelle Simone-De-Beauvoir,” for its design and namesake. A bridge built in this new century to finally honor a woman that led feminist thinking to help all women. This bridge winds up and down, just like people always do with their beliefs and actions. It brings to life what we all strife for “…love, friendship, indignation, and compassion.”
