About this deal

I'm torn on how to rate this one. I loved the start, and was on board 100% finding it hard to stop listening. I was worried and anxious to get to the end. And, as feared, it took a very wimpy turn about an hour before the end. It tried to ramp up the [predictable] action, but it wasn't enough for me to salvage the weak turn it took. So, anti-climatic is the best I can say. Not my fave Patterson book. I did like the story line but it was a little slow for my liking and took to long to get to the point. I was not a huge fan of the character as very little was done to allow us to “know” and empathize with the characters. A former American president turns action hero in Clinton and Patterson’s disappointing follow-up to their bestselling The President Is Missing. President Matt Keating, who was vice president Continue reading » Was reluctant to give this two stars as I really used to enjoy James Pattersons works, however this one was just not for me.

Blowback by James Patterson, Brendan DuBois - Publishers Weekly Blowback by James Patterson, Brendan DuBois - Publishers Weekly

Patterson boils a scene down to a single, telling detail, the element that defines a character or moves a plot along. It's what fires off the movie projector in the reader's mind. MICHAEL CONNELLY Americans could be forgiven for thinking they already have a pretty good idea of what that would be like. A fictional Senate Majority Leader says, “The United States Senate: the most exclusive club in the world, with more than 250 years of history unimpeded by progress.” Tradecraft: “Maybe he’s being too cautious, but that’s like saying there’s too much bacon. No one in the Agency ever says those words.” An anthropomorphic feline katt and canine dogg family immediately clash after arriving at Western Frontier Park for vacation. The characters personify stereotypes associated with their species, most Continue reading »

That attitude of restraint paid off when Trump awarded Patterson a National Humanities Medal, the only one conferred on a novelist during Trump’s time in office. At a White House ceremony in 2019, the president told Patterson, “You’ve sold a lot more books than me, and I guess you’ve sold a lot more books than anyone but maybe one: the Bible.” It was a weird moment that inadvertently called attention to the fact that Trump, Patterson and God rely on other people to help write their books. . . . US President Keegan Barrett has swept into office on his success as director of the CIA. Six months into his first term, he devises a clandestine power grab with deadly consequences.

Blowback: A president in turmoil. A deadly motive. by James Blowback: A president in turmoil. A deadly motive. by James

James Patterson has written many presidential thrillers, like The President's Daughter and the The President is missing, both of which I enjoyed. I thought this was interesting because it was startlingly similar to what is happening in the United States currently with the Trump Administration. What happens when a pyschotic sociopath becomes President? This is a book of true stories the way I remember them. I’m sure I’ll get a few things wrong,” suggests the mega-bestselling novelist in this blithe blend of personal asides, fan trivia, and hot Continue reading » Patterson (James Patterson by James Patterson) and thriller author Mooney (Remembering Sarah) mix biography and imagined dialogue in this intimate portrait of Princess Diana and her Continue reading » James Patterson is the gold standard by which all others are judged. STEVE BERRY, bestselling author of the Colton Malone series The even bigger problem is that President Barrett has an even bigger master plan that he is working on and Liam and Noa are only two of the players that he is manipulating to put that plan into action. It involves putting the Vice-President and the Speaker of the House on the sidelines, taking out several terrorist organizations, preparing military exercises, and purposely antagonizing several Chinese leaders that could cause irreparable harm to international relations. The plot was creative and the writing was decent. I prefer the creep factor over political/war crimes.

Blowback by James Patterson | Goodreads

This could have been better than it was because of the sidebar characters and not much of a plot. Plus some predictable twists. Did the President Pyschopath pay for his dirty deeds? Read to find out. James Patterson is hit or miss with me. This one was a hit in my book. Imagine this: the president of the United States is brilliant but has also lost his mind. Farfetched? Clearly not! President Keegan Barrett, the former director of the CIA, has a dangerous skill set.It was too long, too much jumping around between story lines - with short chapters I don’t think it was effective. Kind of didn’t really have a point apart from veiled digs at a former president of the USA who I don’t need to name.
