About this deal

It's a scary thing, replacing an over-played record with a brand new press, but doing so with Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures worked a treat for us. It is undoubtedly to do with his velveteen vocal draped stunningly over this nine-song set, but also in the rounded body of its accompaniment and the jagged edges he allows sometimes to cut through. Amazing energy coming from both the legendary Soundgarden vocalist and the outstanding Rage Against the Machine band. What a fantastic combination, really! Together they created something so energising and adrenaline raising that I must say - listen responsibly! If you're driving while listening, the gas pedal is pushing itself, so be careful and watch the speed. There are still some genuinely classic songs like “Like A Stone” and the overwhelming “Shadow on the Sun.” The vocal performance is something out of this world, I always love to sing along to try and hit the same notes, which is not easy, while the vocalist makes it look effortless, always leaving me impressed. The guitars and the riffs are top-notch and feel so grand, you can easily tell these are the same guys who performed RATM.

I can’t compare to MOV release as I’ve never heard it but this blows the CD and any streaming out of the water!Sony Music Entertainment Inc. and Interscope Records / Manufactured by Epic, A Division of Sony Music. As we mentioned earlier, there are those records whose sonic pallets are tailor-made for the warmer, less clinical treatment of a vinyl cut. For us, John Martyn's Grace & Danger is one such body of work.

Edit: Bumping this up to a 3, because while I still endorse my prior review the fact is that there are too many guilty bangers on here to leave this as a straight down the middle average album. It's not excellent and I don't return to it often, but this is enjoyable if you don't take the lyrics too seriously and just sing along. Recorded at Cello Studios, Hollywood, CA, Akademie Mathematique Of Philosophical Sound Research, Los Angeles, CA, and Sunset Sound, Los Angeles, CA. Welcome to Vinyl Week on What Hi-Fi?, in association with Technics. You can find out more about how Technics has been defining turntable culture for half a century and the company's SL-1200M7L Limited Edition turntable. Probably in the upper tier of radio-friendly post-grunge, considering most of that wasteland was a cesspit. Regardless of any sonic upturn, there is the implication that the effort you’ve made to place a record upon the platter prepares you for deep listening, but also the near hypnotic relationship between the pianist's continuous music and watching your record spin indefinitely that cannot be replicated. The record sounds like glass. It really needs a bass-boost from your stereo system or you might feel let down (even at high volume) - it misses bass, warmth, sounds like a CD-mastering.
